California leads the nation in jobs lost

California leads the nation in job losses, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Labor.  “The largest over-the-month decrease in the level of employment was reported in California (-78,200), followed by Michigan (-59,000), New York (-54,000), Illinois (-36,000), Indiana (-35,300), and North Carolina (-34,900).”  (See the graphic above for more information).

And the news gets worse when you look at California’s job losses over the past year.  See the graphic above for more information.

Finally, California is also number two in the nation with regards to its unemployment rate, which is at 9.3%  The federal unemployment rate is 7.2%.  See the graphic above for more information.

Doesn’t all of this reflect rather poorly on our Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and our State Legislature?  And just yesterday we found out that the State’s unemployment fund is empty.  “California was forced Monday to begin borrowing money from a federal fund so it could continue paying unemployment insurance benefits to the state’s growing number of jobless residents,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.  No bueno!
