Help me out here. Last week Bank of America planned to award bonuses to their top executives. Now we learn they are in the front of the line at the public troth taking $20 billion in taxpayer TARP dollars. My message to B of A executives. Consolidate, liquidate, or go belly up.
Twenty billion dollars would cover half of our state’s projected shortfall.
Juice readers. While we struggle to keep our heads above water did you receive any TARP money in your mail box today?
The government people are crazy. Instead of buying the banks outright, they give tons of money to proven looser’s.
This is the best government money can buy?
What’s a “public troth”?
This bank and other industries seeking bailouts will continue with their behavior for as long as we the taxpayers let them.
Cook, the government is us. We are responsible for spanking Corporate America and the law makers that let them destroy the economy that made the U.S.A. the power it once was.
We should be more concerned with Corporate America than Middle East Terrorists and illegal immigration.
Corporate America is destroying America like terrorists and illegal immigrants can’t.
I say that the terrorist out to destroy Joe the Plumber are our own Corporations and our law makers that give them the power to do so.
Dr. Lomeli,
I totally agree that the influence of corporate power in our government is the number one domestic challenge to America. No great reform will ever occur until corporations are no longer given a voice in legislative action.
David.
The “public troth” is an expression that we use in describing redevelopment abuses where commercial development projects are subsidized by public agencies with taxpayer money. Also expressed as coming to a public agency for “free candy.”
It’s” public trough” as in “pigs feeding at a trough”. California’s share of that rat-hole and misbegotten Iraq War; 15 billion a year, that too would go a long way too covering our deficits.By the by, where’s Vern and Red Vixen?
#6,
Red’s here, but she only posts when she has something to say. She does however contribute a lot to our day to day functions.
Vern is dealing with some personal issues. He will be back when he gets all that resolved.
anon #6. The word troth is found with two spellings. Yesteday I tried to be politically sensitive. Today I will not sugar coat my reply. We use that term in conjunction with a troth (or trough) used for feeding pigs.
PS: While I provided the logo the “sucks” caption on this story was not added by myself. I do agree that throwing billions of taxpayer dollars to bail out these banks is deplorable.
anon #6. The effort to prosecute the war agaisnt terror has nothing to do with our state’s poor financial planning and current financial disaster
Art. While I agree that we must speak out against the bailout of corporate America we should not let our guard down in the fight against terrorism and protection of open access to vital resources.
With more debates than I can count on both hands everyone who followed this past election cycle saw questions covering both domestic and foreign policy positions. We are no longer on an isolated island.
Larry, the war in Iraq had and has NOTHING to do with the
“war on terror” it was just plain old-fashioned war mongering. The trillion or so it has cost us, is just money flushed down the crapper.
Fer chrissake Larry, just admit that you spelled “trough” wrong, tell Mr. Zenger he’s being a spelling Nazi, and move on. That convoluted explanation is more painful than the misspelling.

God. What is it about Republicans that when they make a mistake, they insist that it be as painful for others as possible with all their excuse making, lies and craptastic creativity to cover up?
He could have also just gone in, edited the word, and quietly gone about his “business”. But Noooooooo……
By the way, urban dictionary has ONE definition of troth. It’s pretty funny, but I don’t think it would fit this particular thread:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=troth
No, #12 I just can’t accept the label “spelling Nazi.” We all make keystroke errors and spelling gaffes, but in this case the error coughed up a real word – troth. You can plight your troth (betrothal) but nobody can feed at it, public or otherwise. It was funny!
Sieg heil!
#11 anon.
This post is about a disappointing government bail out of corporate America, not the war on terror regardless of your opposition or support therof.
PS: FDR did NOT get us out of the great depression
by his make work projects. Check it out. World War II put Americans to work building tanks, airplanes, ships and ammunition for our allies in Europe. So while billions of US dollars have been spent there are those in this country whose jobs are connected to most of that expenditure. How much of that huge total are for food, clothing and weapons?
On the record. I am not one of them, be it personally or through any stock investments.
anon #12.
Here is an Internet use of the word in question from a web site headline.
I realize that this is important to the debate but here it is. After all let’s not point out the abuse that robs citizens of fully funded education, police and fire protection.
“Topic: Pigs at the troth: economic stimulus 2009”
And yes, I continue to miss typo’s in responding to comments. Live with it.
B of A asks for Federal bailout funds, then F’s us real hard by jacking up our credit card interest rates. Maybe this might be a new piece to submit for Orange Juice or my own personal blog.
Sadly us average Americans do not have congress critters of our own to utilize to benefit the majority of the citizenry.
Matt.
You are not permitted to remove the covers from the abusive bank credit card interest rates. Have you noticed that this is one of the best kept secrets in the world of banking.
We just accepted an offer to get a new Visa card that carries Chase on the logo. They notified us that the interst rate would be in double digits on any unpaid balance and the other services such as cash advances. While they give us two percent on our savings accounts they charge that much per month on unpaid balances. And you thought the mafia was out of business?????????
Larry,
The Feds go after Mafia organization ,
prosecute and jail them for what banks do with 29% interest credit cards.
The feds call it loan sharking when Mafia types do it.
The Feds protect banks when they do it and bail them out when they mismanage their business.
Art. You are right on target. Legalized loan sharking.
