I’ve written about the behavior of Democrats and Liberals before. They scream and hand wring about saying anything about their patriotism when they call people who oppose them “haters” and “bigots” and “fascists”.
This is whats called a “tell” in poker. It lets you know what they’re really thinking about themselves and about this country.
Now, the Canadian star of Democrat politics comes out and throws around the word un-american when it comes to bailing out Labor Unions. That’s what this is about. Don’t call it anything else. Don’t try. Automakers spend more on health care for its workers than it does on steel per car.
61% of Americans oppose this auto bailout which will go to paying for thousands of workers who belong to a “job bank” and dont work, hourly wages which, combined with their perks, are far and above the wages of manufacturers around the globe and lifetime benefits to people who “used to work”.
Abroad, Chevrolet is the most popular foreign car in Russia, and GM employs and builds more cars in markets abroad than it does at home. And still there are people who think we should “TELL” others what kind of car they want to drive.
Government regulation and interference is killing the auto industry. And once they’ve killed it, they will want to take it over. Goodbye Ford Bronco, hello Yugo.
The American people are smart enough to see this for what it is, and she doesnt like it.
P.S. Vern
Frog march the frauds to jail like jim bakker. Apart from that, let them speak their minds and let others decide for themselves. Be it hypocrisy or sanctimony.
As I said, the dangerous ones are the ones who advocate silence.
“Government regulation and interference is killing the auto industry.”
Wow! I’m sure that’s news to Honda, Toyota & Nissan – how much money are they asking for?
Everybody loves the advantages of oil & food subsidies, how about elimating them or maybe we should give the 3 blind mice a last chance to restructure and survive.
This lady is a freakin joke. Guess she is of the belief that if you thrown money at something its all fixed and better.
These auto makers got in the position they are in themselves but they want daddy to bail them out. So three months later when they are back where they are today they can say oh daddy you just didn’t give us enough its all his fault. Just waiting for someone to say the UAW shouldn’t have to take a pay cut. They do make more money than the foreign car companies. Really if it was me and it was either take a pay cut or be laid off I would chose less money and keep my job.
If we could come up with more hot babe governors we could do a calendar.
For now, how about Palin-Granholm mud wrestling?
Crowley: Automakers spend more on health care for its workers than it does on steel per car.
Out of the mouths of babes. I’ve been using that fact (and a hundred others) for years to argue for a single-payer national healthcare system.
Vern said: “I’ve been using that fact (and a hundred others) for years to argue for a single-payer national healthcare system.”
Hey Vern – While I cannot go along with nationalized healthcare for the US, I do understand the unfair situation with our auto manufacturers competing with countries that have nationalized healthcare.
I would suggest slapping a tariff on imported vehicles (and any other imports). This tariff could be directly calculated based on the cost of the universal healthcare provided by those countries which place our industries at a disadvantage.
Hey Vern, will you use the same argument for a single-payer system for steel? Are you suggesting that the government is more efficient than GM, and has a magic way for health care to be cheaper than steel? If steel were more expensive, would that kill your argument?
Of course in all fairness, the health care vs. steel cost analysis is a bit of a red herring. I would oppose the bail-out even if health care were a lot cheaper than steel.
Hope that doesn’t make me un-American (whatever that means).
If Americans are committed to freedom of speech, religion, press, and thought then the only possible way to be un-American is to call someone elso un-American.
Granholm is simply too much of a fox to take to task.
Oh, I should say that hotness aside, I agree with Governor Granholm, it IS un-American to pursue policies that favor foreign companies over American companies and workers just because your states like to be tax havens to foreign car companies.
There’s a much better argument for THAT being un-American than there is for what we Progressive Patriots get called un-American for: simply criticizing our government’s foreign policy and its contempt for the Constitution and rule of law.
As far as healthcare, St. John, I’ll be writing a lot about that in the coming weeks and months now that the election’s over. But yes, I certainly think that the government (or better, some non-profit private entity with an elected board) could run the *financing* of our health care WAY more efficiently and cheaply than the mess of for-profit insurance companies we have now. And every civilized nation (despite their various mistakes from which we can learn) does it MUCH better than us, spending way less and covering everybody.
But – will you be around to argue? You come and go around here and vanish like a will-o’-the-wisp. I thought you would help me get out of that contract with my old cell phone company using your Prop 8 argument – that since “Only marriage between a man and woman is valid in the state of California” my contract is not.
junior:
Tariffs are what the Big Three relied on for ages. They don’t work.
In response, the Japanese and German car manufacturers built their plants in the South. A Toyota nowadays is more American-built than a Chevy. Even the all-electric Chevy Volt was designed in Germany, a country with universal health-care, by GM’s German subsidiary.
So, how about a tariff on GM???
And as far as a “nationalized” health care system is concerned, such a system would likely save CA a ton of money, so it would be a good thing for out cash-strapped state. But don’t let common sense get into the way of your ideology…
I know we could pay for national health care with a tariff on everything that comes into the country.
Removing the medical sector from the free enterprise system tends to reduce the overall quality of health care.
Studies have shown the quality of health care is typically higher in the U.S. than in any other nation, including those with nationalized health insurance.
“I don’t know what Sen. Vitter has against GM or the United Auto Workers or the entire domestic auto industry; whatever it is, whatever he thinks we’ve done, it’s time for him to forgive us, just like Sen. Vitter has asked the citizens of Louisiana to forgive him, ” said Johnson, president of Local 2166. Otherwise, Johnson said of Vitter, it would appear, “He’d rather pay a prostitute than pay auto workers.”
Johnson’s comments are a reference to the revelation last year that Vitter’s name appeared in the phone records of a Washington prostitution ring. At the time, Vitter responded that “several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling.”
Vitter, R-La., has gotten out in front of opposition to the bailout of the auto industry, joining a handful of other Southern Republicans, led by Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama.

Em! Most of us single-payer advocates – at least the people pushing for SB 840 in California – do not want to take the whole “medical sector” out of the free enterprise system – ONLY the financing of it. Doctors, hospitals, manufacturers of drugs and medical supplies, would all remain free capitalistic agents, bargaining with the state or the healthcare agency instead of the myriad of insurance companies they have to deal with now. So it wouldn’t be socialized medicine like they have in England or France.
Sure our quality of care is the best (just about) but ONLY for those rich enough to pay for it, OR the very poor who can get MediCal etc. the vast majority of us will end up in the poor house when we get cancer or injured.
And the boogie man lives under my bed Vern.
“Nationalized health insurance does not insure equal access to the health care system. Elderly people in Canada and the United Kingdom report much more difficulty in obtaining health care than U.S. seniors. “
