He was supposed to be the heir apparent to Assemblyman Van Tran, but ultra-conservative Republican Jim Righeimer lost his campaign for the Costa Mesa City Council this week, even though I am sure he spent 10 times what I did in my Council race in Santa Ana.
Congratulations to Costa Mesa Councilwoman Katrina Foley, who just missed being the top vote getter. She is now the one who has a chance to take the 68th Assembly District in a couple of years, not Righeimer!
The other winners in Costa Mesa included Gary Monahan and Eric Bever.
Sounds like he should have stayed put in Fountain Valley.
Right. Fountain Valley turned out Cook-supporter and liberal Gus Ayer (he drew the least of four candidates, a really dismal showing for a six year incumbent). Righeimer would’ve had a much easier time of it, and could have dominiated the narcoleptic Council they have now.
Some one reach over and wake up Guy Carrozo please.
It wasn’t really as bad as all that for “The Rig”. Monahan skated in as a former Mayor and long time CM Councilmember. Katrina Foley was a literal shoo-in and Eric Bever was the only UNK. In any event, Rig can be proud enough to raise his head with pride and look forward to the next CM City Council Election which he may find a willing seat!
