A group of San Francisco first-graders took an unusual field trip to
City Hall on Friday to toss rose petals on their just-married lesbian
teacher – putting the public school children at the center of a fierce
election battle over the fate of same-sex marriage.
The 18 Creative Arts Charter School students took a Muni bus and
walked a block at noon to toss rose petals and blow bubbles on their
just-married teacher Erin Carder and her wife Kerri McCoy, giggling
and squealing as they mobbed their teacher with hugs.
Mayor Gavin Newsom, a friend of a friend, officiated. story continues:
This is why charter schools are bad. This would never have happened in a public school.
My tax dollars at work – without the constraints of the school district.
no_vasoline,
If nothing else those kids will know how to ride on a bus!
No_, thats the point of Charter Schools (and vouchers) to free them from all that red tape and buracuracy <- Convenient when the desire is to prohibit or proscribe, inconvenient when you want to be spontaneous. The good news is the children were exposed to an interesting day with happy people… plus there’s that bus skill.
The good news is the children were exposed to an interesting day with happy people
Anonyms, I can’t agree with you more emphatically.
RV, This is a beautiful story. It underscores how allegedly wise adults contaminate and stifle childrens’ unconditional love, spontaneity and creativity with ridiculous fear. Why don’t we, collectively, “get it”???? Those first-graders have a LOT to teach this world!
