So… well, OK, Long Story Short. At our weekly Orange Juice staff meeting yesterday it kept coming up how, despite the fact that Proposition 8 is SO important to the California Republican Party, we don’t really have a pro-Prop 8 blogger. We do have plenty of Republicans but none of them seem to be particularly anti-gay; and Larry Gilbert, who had made some sort of noise about being a spokesman for this initiative, seems to have backed off, maybe sensing it’s a … well, I don’t want to call it a sinking ship because I do not want to suggest that my Juice-Brother Larry is a rat.
So … you know, me and my big mouth, I mentioned this guy I went to college with, who is a very good writer but seems to really have a hangup about homosexuals, I can’t say why. I haven’t kept up with him much, though I do know he is my age (48), never married, no kids, still lives with his mother, dresses very sharply, and really seems to feel that homosexuality is some great existential threat to him personally. And damned if Art (and others) didn’t pipe up: “Great! Get him on board! Anything for a good debate.”
So, with sorrow and great trepidation, I give you … PHOBIUS.
Why is it that nobody has said anything to me about a “staff meeting” for the blog pen? Another figment of your prodigious imagination brother Vern? Just my humble opinion, but we need another loose cannon on the deck like I need to have another crushed disk in my lower back.
HELLO, is there anyone out there who understands the word credibility? HELLO? Is there anybody out there?
I strive to actually put some time and effort into my posts and responses. (OK yesterday I screwed up BIG time and relearned a lesson, sometimes that refresher course needs to be taken. Again, my apologies for that stupid slip! I promise to make every effort not to repeat that mistake.)
I actually put time into checking facts and getting attributions right, I actually care about credibility.
I actually do give a damn about protecting all of our Rights. I don’t like pen names, nor the use of anonymous posting, I understand its necessity sometimes, but I don’t like it. I take stands here that are not always popular and hang my personal reputation out on the line daily. While those who hide in the shadows and say anything they like without any risk to themselves or obligation to the truth.
But this…. I disagree totally.
I guess I know why nobody told me about this “meeting” of the blog pen.
Oh that’s right, it was just in your head wasn’t it Vern?
Carl,
Who pissed on your Post Toasties???? (I say that with all due affection; you’re one of my favorites on this blog!)
Come on, there are many ways to impart information. Some people are more prone to sit up and pay attention when an outrageous analogy, infused with a healthy dose of humor, is presented to them.
There is no absence of credibility here. What I glean is an immense desire to shake some sense into people. I understand that you don’t agree with the methodology, but I, for one, get tired of bland reporting. It’s like sitting in a classroom with a teacher who stands at the podium reading from their lesson plan, versus the one who engages the students with activities and movies and gets them fired up and thinking.
As far as this lesson goes, Vern, I think it was a job well done.
Sup bro.
What’s Phobius got to say?
I think you know the answer to that question.
I strive to actually put some time and effort into my posts and responses.
Actually, from what I understand, Brother Carl, Phobius put days of work – and weeks of thought – into his first post. And lots of research (especially into the Liebermans, with whom he also seems to be obsessed.) As odious as his message may be to you and me.
And yes, it was an OJ staff meeting in my head. I have them all the time.
Carl,
Do you find it distressing that Vern and his buddy, Phobius, are popular among the OJ crowd?
You’ve not done much to attract the like-minded Rosie Avila crowd like Pho will.
😉
Once again RV, I hope you’re not suggesting Avila and Carl are like-minded, I don’t think that’s true.
PHO, huh? I think that’s way too cute for this creep Phobius.
Once again RV, I hope you’re not suggesting Avila and Carl are like-minded, I don’t think that’s true.
Not at all. Pho seems to be nearly peer-less, and the only one I could really think of that would be a peer is Rosie. Nothing from anyone here has attracted her to the OJ, as of yet, so perhaps Pho may do the trick.
Vern, you’re wayyyy too hard on your ex classmate 😉
