Santa Ana school cop arrested for beating his girlfriend

“A 10-year police officer with the Santa Ana Unified School District is facing charges he beat up his girlfriend during a weekend camping trip at Doheny State Beach with their baby, and then telling the woman not to tell anything to authorities who questioned her about the attack,” according to the O.C. Register.

Folks have been saying for years that the SAUSD school police are a bunch of rejects who can’t get jobs with regular police departments. This story won’t help their reputation.

The Register also reported that “Anthony Carl Maes, 51, Whittier, is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning on one misdemeanor count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one misdemeanor count of dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. He faces up to two years in jail if convicted on all charges.”

Maes apparently told his girlfriend, in Spanish, not to say anything when a couple of park rangers came by his trailer to tell him to turn down his music. So he was dating, and beating, a Latina. I wonder if she was a former SAUSD student?

Couldn’t the SAUSD, which is broke and running in the red, save some money by disbanding its school police and using a combination of security guards and SAPD?
