Hoa Van Tran and Dina Nugyen are NOT ready for prime time

The O.C. Register published an interview this weekend with all three candidates for the First Supervisorial District.  They finally put it up on their website today.

Republicans won’t be too happy with Dina Nguyen’s answer regarding the pension controversy.  “I would have honored the contract. But in contract law, there are exceptions where you don’t have to perform. And if it falls into any of those exceptions, then I would have considered renegotiating the contract. Renegotiate before suing them. Because these men and women – what you give to them is the consideration of putting their lives on the line.”

And check out her ding-dong answer about who should be the next Sheriff:

“Whether they’re looking for a new sheriff or not, they have an acting sheriff. And there are many people who want to be the acting sheriff. I believe they should give everyone an equal opportunity to submit their applications and review them and choose the best one to be the acting sheriff.

But ultimately, it would be the people who should decide. It should be the people who elect a sheriff. So … they should have an election in November for the new sheriff. But in the meanwhile, there’s an acting sheriff and there are many people who want that position. They should move forward with it quickly so the public can be served by the best qualified candidate.”

Hoa Van Tran’s answer regarding the pension crisis also leaves much to be desired, “That’s a tough question, because right now Moorlach is talking about it may be unconstitutional, about whether it’s retroactive back to 2002, 2001. So that’s a tough question for now because I haven’t had a chance to study the whole lawsuit and the whole contract. So I’m not sure, you know, where I should stand. But as a lawyer, if you sign some contract, you should honor it. That’s my stand.”

If you sign some contract?  Huh?

When asked who should be the next Sheriff, Van Tran admits that he has not looked at the candidates.  How is that possible?  That is a HUGE county issue!  Does Van Tran know ANYTHING about the current county problems?  It sure doesn’t look like it.

As for Supervisor Janet Nguyen, her answer regarding who should be the next Sheriff was the best, “The first is strategy on how that individual, he or she, will go in and try to clean up the department. It’s now very apparent that this issue of corruption not only lies at the top, it filtered down. … This department has always been known as one of the premier law enforcement departments in the nation. We can get back to it. People need to trust the sheriff’s department again.”

It is obvious that Dina and Van Tran are NOT ready for prime time.
