“Of the 38 congressional, state Senate and Assembly seats that are either entirely or largely within the nine Bay Area counties, Republicans hold only the 15th Assembly District seat in Contra Costa and Alameda counties. And the GOP incumbent there, Guy Houston of San Ramon, is termed out this year,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Just like that the Bay Area is going to have ZERO Republican state or federal legislators. Just like Santa Ana. Los Angeles does not offer much safe harbor to the GOP either.
If the GOP stopped hating gays and Latinos, perhaps they would not be in this mess. Not to mention over-fixating on abortion.
The downside of all this is once the Democrats take over, the taxes and fees start going up. Look at what is happening in Santa Ana, where the Democrats and their union allies have a choke hold on the city. Two multi million dollar school bonds have passed, for the SAUSD and the Rancho Santiago Community College District. Another SAUSD bond is on the June ballot. And I hear that the Santa Ana City Council is going to put a “parks and police” parcel tax on the November ballot.
When entire metropolitan areas go blue, it bodes ill for your wallet. Too bad the California Republicans can’t figure out that they would win a lot more races if they focused on reducing government waste and fraud, stopping new taxes, and holding government agencies accountable.
The only good news for the GOP is that a handful of wealthy moderates has started a new grassroots association to “So the group, stocked with some very rich GOP contributors, will be out recruiting, advising and training candidates it deems to be potential winners,” according to George Skelton over at the L.A. Times. The new group is called the “California Republicans Aligned for Tomorrow,” or CRAFT.
“GOP consultant Kevin Spillane says the party needs to field more candidates that reflect California’s growing diversity.” How about not hating California’s minorities? That would be a nice start.
Pobre elefante muerte. Hey, let’s throw it an anvil!
