Huntington Beach: In Gold We Trust (Pt. IV of V)

Say the Huntington Beach City Council,
in an unusually reverent mood one fine day,
decides to post an inspirational phrase in the Council Chambers,
to show the depth of religious faith that drives them to serve their community.
Do they choose
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?”
Not.
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone?”
Not.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit?”
Hell not.
They choose a phrase that jumps out at them
as they contemplate a stack of hundred-dollar bills
after a long hard day of
have remarked on the inappropriateness
of us Americans putting God on our money;
while the horror film “They Live
reveals a subliminal message on currency reading “This Is Your God.”
Meanwhile Fountain Valley wit Gus Ayer suggests
the HB plaque read
IN GOD WE TRUST – ALL OTHERS PAY CASH.
What say you, big guy?

“No servant can serve two masters;
for either he will hate the one, and love the other;
or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.
Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
