Is Santa Ana Unified an even worse school district than L.A. Unified? You bet. Take a look at the graphic above. The ranking system ranks schools form worst to best. SAUSD comes in at #30 while LAUSD comes in at 46. Not good!
And take a look at how many of the SAUSD schools are in the improvement column – 39! In fact only 26% of SAUSD schools are NOT in need of improvement, compared to 52% of LAUSD schools.
You can see the entire list of schools in trouble at this link.
So SAUSD schools are in even more trouble than L.A. Unified schools. And what does our school board want to do? Pass another construction bond. No thanks!
What we need to do is clean house at SAUSD headquarters. Superintendent Jane Russo has followed in the footsteps of her old boss, Al Mijares, who by the way worked at Bakersfield (ranked #22) and Coachella (ranked #7) before he ruined SAUSD. Both of those districts are also failing. Coachella is in fact on the verge of a state takeover, according to the L.A. Times. Looks like the Mijares legacy is ruinous everywhere he has ever worked!
This is an election year. Like the Sheriff’s Department, it is time to clean house.

Mijares has not been at SAUSD for a while. And he was there for about 12 years as I recall. So linking him to problems in Bakersfield in Coachella is quite a stretch, don’t you think.
You never let little things like facts get in the way of your personal dislike of a person.
publius,
No, not at all. Look at SAUSD. His right hand, Russo, is now the Superintendent. And many of the hacks he hired still work for Russo.
There is no telling what sort of long term damage Mijares did to EVERY school district he worked for. We may never know the entire story.
There is a reason he no longer can work for school districts. He is a pariah…
He certainly was ruinous for SAUSD. Why do you think I dislike him?
And what about the damn School Board? Every single one of them is accountable for this mess!
Do not forget that parts of LAUSD are in very nice, upscale neighborhoods. We don’t have many of these in Santa Ana, so our results reflect a different, more monolithic population that does LA’s
hey,
never,
ever forget,
it is ALWAYS THE TEACHERS who are at fault.
just look at the “knee-jerk” response of the district punjabs:
ALWAYS get rid of more teachers than any other employees.
We are all still waiting for the superintendent to show some compassion and turn back some of her exorbitant salary to the “under-funded” district (especially in light of her being GROSSLY under-educated/prepared for her present position) since SAUSD is undergoing such dire monetary shortages.
It’s too bad they don’t measure self esteem. Our Santa Ana youth may not get good marks on tests but they feel good about themselves and that counts for something.
