Gustavo Arellano has a funny piece up today over at his OC Weekly Navel Gazing Blog. He is asking his readers to give Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido a nickname! You can see the choices in the graphic above.
Personally I like the nickname one of our readers gave him – Pudrido, which sounds like Pulido but means “rotten” in Spanish. I have also called him “El Rey,” which is Spanish for “the King.” Actually, given his diminutive status, “El Chaparito” would also be appropriate. That is Spanish for “the little guy.”
Gustavo also gave us a hat tip, “*Hat tip, btw, to Orange Juice! and its wonderfully imaginative/slanderous commentators, who have deemed councilmembers Claudia Alvarez “Clownia,” David Benavides “Benapuppet,” racist SanTana activists “The Usual Suspects,” and Carlos Bustamante “The Space Commander.”
Thanks Gustavo! We did indeed come up with a lot of great nicknames last year! We’ll try to keep that up in the New Year. Now how about nicknames for Santa Ana Councilmen Vince Sarmiento and Sal Tinajero? I think “El Cucuy” would be appropriate for Sal…

Sal’s easy–Fat Sal! And Vince is Prince, since Pulido is el rey!
I think it is “Chaparrito” not “Chaparito”. Please correct me if I am wrong.
i like “sal tinapuerco” myself.
How about “Ms. Impor-ant” for Michelle Martinez?
What’s the matter with you people? Of all the childish, idiotic, and stupid things I have ever seen here…this proves what most people think of you.
#5 get over yourself. This is only meant in jest and stop brown-nosing the mayor.

What a stick in the mud!
I will tell you the same thing I tell my grandchildren – “Knock it off”. Namecalling is mean, not funny, and shows a complete lack of class. This is not a lockeroom, it is supposedly a political blog.
#8. Get a life.
