The Santa Ana City Council Members who are trying to remove mayoral term limits from a measure that will be on the ballot this February, have given the O.C. Register a look at why they are doing this. Here are a few excerpts from the Register article:
“We realized that the mayor has deep pockets,” said councilman Sal Tinajero, who was part of a special committee that initially recommended sending the term-limits issue to the ballot. “He would be able to run a campaign against this.”
The committee also decided that voters on the other side of the issue
Art,
Neither you nor I liked the proposed Mayoral term limits that was going to be on the ballot. You were also opposed to extending the term limits for the council. You did not like that the issues were tied together in the same proposal.
What has happened now is the two proposals will be seperated. Isn’t that what you wanted? Granted the issue of Mayoral term limits isn’t on the ballot, but we did not want the term limits they were proposing anyway.
Hopefully this means that Mayoral term limits will be voted on in the near future. I have it from a good source that it will show up on a ballot real soon.
For all those who are praising David Benevides for his position now, let me remind you that he refused to go along with Mayoral term limits when the issue was brought up originally. The only reason he opposes the current measure is because he is afraid if it passes his buddy Roman Reyna won’t be able to snag the Ward 5 seat.
I’m confused Art. I thought there was already a ballot measure filed with the clerk with for and against arguments. Is that one no longer on the ballet?
I encourage David Benavides to sin on to the statement opposing this.
Any Councilmember who votes for this is giving the middle finger to the voters and will be held accountable.
NO ONE asked for longer terms for Councilmembers.
If anyone votes to place this on the ballot it is telling the voters that the Council just does not care.
Sean,
Your loyalty to Tinajero is misplaced; he does not deserve your allegiance.
Gordon is spot on, extending council member terms was never on the table for discussion. Pulido & Crew have concoted this ruse to further advance their agenda.
