The O.C. Register is reporting today that disgraced O.C. Sheriff Mike Carona “has resigned from a prominent federal Homeland Security task force and lost his security clearance after a federal indictment against him was unsealed, Homeland Security officials said Thursday.”
D’oh! So much for American’s Sheriff! I wonder if Carona’s taint is going to hurt his bogus reserve deputies, such as Assemblyman Van Tran (pictured above) and State Senator Lou Correa? If they have not already turned in their guns and badges, I suggest they get on it.
As one would expect, Carona’s handler stepped in with a load of B.S. – “Carona spokesman Mike Schroeder responded, “That’s just false. He tendered his resignation right away. It wasn’t because he was asked to.”
But what did Homeland Security have to say about this? “”We asked him to submit his resignation,” said DHS spokesman Larry Orluskie.”
Schroeder is such a big, fat liar!
The damage to O.C. was assessed by O.C. Supervisor Chris Norby. , who “wondered Thursday whether Carona’s tarnished reputation and dismissal from Homeland Security would rub off on the county. “Orange County has been a leader in these areas and has had a leadership role. The situation (Carona) is in has wiped that out,” Norby said. “How long is the erosion going to continue?”
But wait, there’s more bad news. “Carona also was on tap to become the president of the Major County Sheriff’s Association in January but has contacted the group and declined to take the post.”
And Supervisor John Moorlach weighed in as well with “a question aimed at Carona. Why do we have to partner with you during this difficult time?”
In related news, one of Carona’s deputy sheriffs is in seriously hot water, according to the L.A. Times:
An Orange County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with falsely imprisoning as many as 12 prostitutes and sexually assaulting them while pretending to be on official police business, the district attorney’s office said Thursday. Richard Rodriguez, 43, a deputy assigned to the Orange County Transportation Authority, is accused of handcuffing prostitutes loitering on Harbor Boulevard, putting them in his patrol car and driving them to isolated areas. He allegedly then would sexually touch the victims or photograph them in the nude posing in different positions, prosecutors said.
I wonder if Carona personally hired this guy? He sure seems to be a Caronista in terms of his behavior…

Thank you for the update. I have a question about Carona. It does appear that some of the top elected officials (who aren’t directly connected to Carona) know a lot more than what is being released. Some who were saying “Carona is innocent until proven guilty” are now distancing themselves from him in every possible way.
It appears more than just a growing realization — even among Carona’s fans — that he’s through. You indicated in an earlier article that more indictments are coming. Any specifics?
The OC GOP is the exact reverse of the what Frank Sinatra sang in New York, New York, “If you can make it there, you’ll make it anywhere.”
For Orange County Republicans the song would be “If I can make here, I’ll fail everywhere else.”
The dumb and sleazy rise to the top and I’d make a list of the usual suspects but it’s too tiresome to contemplate and would take too long to document the parade of the clownish, the crude, the clueless, the crooked and the creepy. Many of them, like Carona, embody every one of these qualities.
Tran used to pack his peashooter in Little Saigon while eating pho. He claimed that the commies were after him so he had to carry heat. Yeah, right!
