I just received a copy of the argument in favor of Measure D, which will extend Santa Ana Council Members terms by another four years. This argument is absolutely disingenuous – and I think that Santa Ana voters will see right through it.
ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF MEASURE D
The Santa Ana City Charter needs to be amended and reformed.
Santa Ana City Officials and community leaders representing Santa Ana
Didn’t Charter Reform Commission and the Santa Ana voters decide on City Councilmember term limits in 2006?
The Mayor seems pretty experienced and stable in his position and look how that has reduced murders and improved the conditions of Santa Ana’s streets. So an experienced and stable City Council will change all of this? The Mayor still does not have ANY term limits.
How does extending the terms of the City Council reduce the influence of developers?
Also, the actual Code of Ethics is not included in this measure. The City Council is going to draw up the code of ethics that THEY will follow. Ha ha ha!
Where does this measure specifically make make City Hall accountable to Santa Ana residents and not the powerful special interests? I did not see anything about making city government more open, responsive or even just televising both City Council meetings.
This measure smells more cheaper than a McDonald’s Big Mac sold at a Wal Mart!
It looks like Lisa Bist made a deal so that she could make a comeback to the City Council against Michelle Martinez.
this is the first bite at the apple, maybe june will bring a better measure to vote on. When this one fails

Voters should be asking … where’s the beef?
ok, who’s going to make the No on Measure D T-Shirts, and where can I order one.
This is easy one Art.
Every one knows that the Measure “D” will not pass.
So I do want to see you gloat.
Your NO on “D” effort will have noting to do with that.
Poster 6,
You do have to wonder why Mayor Pulido is backing this disaster of a measure. Strange move.
But I must disagree. Our argument against Measure D will be mailed to every voter in Santa Ana. I do think that when they read the two arguments, their decision will be an easy one. They will vote no on D.
The real question is whether or not they will vote against Pulido and his hacks next November.
“You do have to wonder why Mayor Pulido is backing this disaster of a measure.”
He has no choice but to back it, moreover he has noting to loss by doing so. For him it is win to win situation. He is probably right now selecting new “Pulido Puppet”.
As to your importance to opposition on “D”?…. I said it in the chamber, eye to eye to Claudia, and I will say it again: “If an idiot like Pedroza can figure out that it is a scam so will the majority of Santa Ana’s voting idiots.”
She took a visible written note of appearing deeply concerned.
Besides, your opposition is poorly written any way to have any significant impact on the reader who will give it only about 10 second glance.
In my opponion the measure was to have the voters perceive those council members voting for the measure as power hungry, driven by self interest, and untrustworthy. The intent is to have the all Hispanic Council seem unable to function so that in the next elections the targeted members can be taken out.
The measure will be defeated, the perceptions of the Council Members will be made , the Mayor will be unaffected and so the stage will be set for election time, so that the past control of the Council will be resumed. This will happen. Unless the Council Members wake up, the community and it’s activists understand what is happening and credible candidates are presented that have the best interests of the residents, and do’nt have political interests beyond local politics.
The all Hispanic Council needed to be outstanding in their actions to create credibility. Instead the issues addressed by this Council, by design, have been mundane and irrelevant as they affect the residents of the city. This will be the political attack fodder and justification to not support Hispanic maverick candidates and to remove those sittting candidates selected by the Mayor’s supporters.
If this measure is really the way that Mayor Pulido wants to get rid of Sal Tinajero and put the last nail in the coffin of Claudia Alvarez’s political career, I am going to have to say…Go Pulido!
