UPDATE:
Here is additional information from O.C Supervisor Bill Campbell:
Currently the Santiago Fire is being attacked by a unified command set up between the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) and the City of Orange Fire Department, the command is set up in Irvine Regional Park. The County has activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Loma Ridge and has all public information lines fully staffed. Click here to view a map of the fire boundaries.

Art,
It was really difficult to get tv news coverage of the local fires last night. Do you have a suggestion on where a viewer can tune in to see the local fires?
Tia
Poster 1,
That is a real challenge as we don’t have our own TV network station here in the OC. I did go back and add the popular TV and Radio stations to my links.
I really don’t know if any of the TV stations have better coverage than the others. Readers?
Where’s the National Guard? And all the California units? O ya their fighting the Shrubs War in Iraq!
I love the line of self congratulatory fire chiefs, police officials and county blowhards at the news conferences.
I especiially loved Roger “blowjob” Hedgecock describing the “scores of dead bodies” from the Cedar fire, years back. It killed an estimated 15, three from unrelated accidents.
There’s nothing like a natural disaster to get the politico’s rolling.
Great post Art! I’m so proud of our men and women who are fighting these fires. They risk life an limb so people can live in these areas. God bless them all! It’s because of times like these that I always look to see who the Fire Fighters are endorsing during elections. It’s seems the least I can do to thank them, is to vote for the elected officials that they think will keep our cities safe. I live in Santa Ana and the fire fighters often go to the effort to actually walk in my neighborhood and knock on my door and help me decide who to vote for. As a person getting up in years, I look to them to know who is best. I just don’t know many of the people running and I trust firefighters. Always have, always will. So when you go to be tonight say a prayer for a firefighter and his family and when it’s time to vote, remember who you owe so much to…the men and women in uniform.
I agree with Anon #4. It just makes me sick seeing the politicos patting each other on the back while making as many photo op’s as possible. I love how they all crowd as close together and insist on each saying a line or two with the hope of getting on the news.
I agree with the comments on the Politicos…there is only 1 that I want to hear from and thats Dumitru, from the City of Orange, he works for the Fire Authority and is probably in the thick of things.
Hey Art, give him a call and get some info….he could probably give some real good insight!
#4 and #6,
C’mon. If the politicians DIDN’T show up, can you imagine the fallout from THAT? They HAVE to show up, especially in a post-Katrina environment.
