Good morning Art.
As you have just confirmed, campaign contributions are Public Records that are easily obtained.
Further, my guess is that every line item in your post is within legal FPPC limits.
Having questioned campaign contributions in my own city during multiple elections I will not take you to task for this post other than to request that you show similar data for other members of our state Assembly and or Senate. i.e. Lou Correa or Joe Dunn.
While they are not candidates for the 33rd seat of outgoing Senator Dick Ackerman it might be of interest for Juice readers.
A few questions.
How many registered voters reside in the 33rd Senate District?
How many of them are within the Anaheim School District for which this day 4 story was triggered?
How many of them reside outside this district?
If that number is less than 10 percent than this entire issue might be perceived as a concern by a “special interest” minority of the total district electorate.
And lastly. As someone who has tried to contact every elected official in Sacramento on pending legislation let me tell you that virtually all of them do not respond. i.e. AB 887 property rights protection. Your chances for receiving a reply increase if you live in their current area of representation.
i.e. While Mimi lives closer to those of us living in Mission Viejo, she is still not our Assemblymember. She represents the 73rd AD while I live in the 71st. Our representative is Todd Spitzer. Several of my requests are triggered by my participation as a member of the media. That in itself is not a green light for them or their staff to respond.
Today’s paper says that even Rudy has told the media to back off on questioning his family.
This clearly illustates that candidates are not compelled to respond to every individual or groups line of questioning.
Have a great day.
Yawn Art…………this is all available on line and not a single donor is unexpected nor controversial.
Larry,
Hope you had a great vacation.
I agree that Mimi is not compelled to answer my question, but it is a highly relevant question.
As I have said before, every voter counts. By ignoring the voters in the AUHSD, Mimi is sending them a very loud message. They don’t matter to her.
I do have a problem with many of the contributions that Mimi took. (BTW, Flowerszxz this part is for you too). Taking money from predatory lenders, tobacco companies, gambling interests, greedy pharmaceuticals and medical insurance companies, corrupt waste companies, car salesmen, and the like tells you all you need to know about Mimi. My mom used to say that you can tell a lot about someone by looking at who their friends are…
Harald Martin is a racist and a monstrous man. Ask Alexandria Coronado, who is a conservative Republican, about him. He never should have been appointed. Mimi and Harry want to continue to ignore the campaign to oust him – but I am not going to let them off the hook.
This Mimi and Harry watch will continue – for the rest of the campaign if need be. And I will continue to have fun parsing the records of Mimi and Harry.
In my next watch column we will have a closer look at Harry…
Take care Larry! Enjoy your weekend.
Greetings Art. This reply is coming from Central Florida as we do not return until late on Monday, (after our city council meeting). My city council offered to buy my house if I promise never to return to Mission Viejo.
Well perhaps it was a prior council
For the record. As many readers may recall, I was very active in two initiatives last year. Co-author in opposition to the Measure M extension and a spokesperson for Prop 90 to protect private property from government “takings.”
Over the course of last year promoting Prop 90 and other legislative efforts dealing with this issue I interfaced with Assemblymember Mimi Walters. We each spoke, on the same evening, at a large club meeting held in Laguna Woods. mimi is a strong advocate for this issue and has drafted her own proposals.
Like Senator Tom McClintock, she has taken on this challnege which goes against the Leauge of Cities position and all of their special interest group supporters. That takes guts.
I share that information as this private property rights fight is ongoing. Let there be no qurestion that I will continue working with, and supporting, the Assemblywoman.
Methinks this sort of donor list is par for the course, especially for State and Federal level politicians. They’re ALL guilty of taking money from questionable sources. Thing is, these donors hedge their bets…for example, they may be inclined to favor a Republican with the bulk of their donations, but they’ll also give money to a Democrat too, just in case they get elected. It probably says a lot more about the dysfunctional political system we have than the individual politicians.
Art—A little tossed salad post but of interest nonetheless. You are right to keep the pressure on these two.
larry, while I admire your loyalty to Walters for her property rights positions you shouldn’t give her a hall pass on this one. This is a huge issue for Anaheim and, for that matter, the reputation of the whole OC. We’ve had our share of wingnuts(John Schmitz) and dumbnuts(Chet Wray, RIP)and Martin is a crossover. Art’s right, if these people want to represent any part of Anaheim, be it 1% or 100%, they owe it to tell the public whether they supported the appointment and whether they support the effort to call for an election. Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle has..these two should step up also. Either they don’t have the guts to take a position or they are afraid to come out against a conservative Republican in the Minuteman mold. Either way, its a clear sign to voters that they should take a pass on these two. Sacramento has enough drones without adding another one.
Art… One more thing. While the Walters contribution list was a little off topic, as I said it was interesting. Of most interest was the $250 contribution from Lori Galloway to Walters.
What’s your take on that? I don’t know the date of the contribution but do you think it is fallout from the Mouse Wars or does galloway like contributing to GOP women like Walters and Daucher?
bladerunner,
That darn list took me close to two hours to compile! But it was interesting and hopefully worthwhile.
I have a feeling that Galloway is contributing to socially moderate women irrespective of their party status. However, she ought to be calling up Walters and asking her to support the ouster of Martin…
n2justice,
Too true. I think perhaps some of these contributions could backfire on Walters. Candidates are always happy to take the money, but they don’t often consider the consequences.
I especially like the category:
DONATIONS FROM POLITICIANS FACING RECALL
LOL…
