Well, it comes as absolutely no surprise to me that I have yet to hear from Assemblywoman Mimi Walters or Anaheim Councilman Harry Sidhu. You may recall that I wrote a post yesterday which asked whether or not they are backing the ouster of racist Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Harald Martin.
As I explained in my post, Walters and Sidhu are both Republican candidates for the 33rd State Senate District, which includes a portion of the AUHSD. Many of their Republican colleagues are supporting the ouster of Martin, including Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle and Red County/OC Blog editor Matt Cunningham. But we have yet to hear from either Walters or Sidhu.
I emailed both of them at their campaign email addresses. And as of right now I have not received a response from either Walters or Sidhu.
It should be noted that Walters promises, on her campaign website, to “Help stop illegal immigration.” And Sidhu appears on his campaign website smiling alongside former Governor Pete “Prop. 187” Wilson. Obviously they are both catering to the Minuteman crowd, so I don’t expect them to back the ouster of Minuteman favorite Harald Martin.
Instead, it would appear that Walters and Sidhu are afraid to make a decision. What sort of leadership is that? State Senator Lou Correa made his decision – he is backing the ouster of Martin. Assemblyman Jose Solorio made his decision – he too is backing the ouster of Martin. But Walters and Sidhu appear to be missing in action, or inaction.
We will be visiting this issue every day until we finally hear from them. It could be a long Harry & Mimi Watch…
I believe harry had a death in the family and is currently dealing with that Art.
I once emailed the Mayor of Mission Viejo. Never heard back.
I once emailed a Santa Ana Councilmember. Never heard back.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for a response.
Flowerszzz,
Thanks for the tip. I am sorry to hear about his loss.
HOWEVER, the man is running for the STATE SENATE. Does he not have a campaign staff? Does he not have a campaign consultant? Can no one associated with Sidhu speak to whether or not he supports the ouster of the monstrous Harald Martin?
And where is Mimi Walters? Does she not have a campaign posse that can comment on her position re Harald Martin?
The silence is deafening…
n2justice.
You once wrote to a council person in Mission Vejo and never heard back? Which one and when? It’s unfair to paint them all with a wide brsuh and call them nonresponsive. We have had many council members in our short 20 years of cityhood. If you can provide the name I will gladly try to follow up.
Art. Good morning. As I responded yesterday, while there surely are voters who would like an answer to your specific question on Martin the candidates may or may not be dodging your inquiry. Perhaps a member of the juice blog should attend one of their appearances and ask the question directly rather than sending a letter.
We both know that there are many issues that members of our state Senate have to deal with such as a minor issue of approving a budget.
Larry,
I hope your vacation is going well. Thanks for jumping in on this post.
There are indeed a great many issues facing our legislators, but with all due respect, Ms. Walters is on the sideline now as the matter of the budget is being held up by her peers in the State Senate.
Furthermore, we have seen two other legislators, Assemblyman Jose Solorio and State Senator Lou Correa, actively support the effort to oust Harald Martin.
One cannot even argue that this campaign is a Democrat one, as there are many Republicans backing the effort to oust Martin. They include Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle; OC Board of Education Trustee Alexandria Coronado; Red County/OC Blog editor Matt Cunningham; and former Republican and current OC Register editorial writer Steven Greenhut.
We often hear from our legislators that education is a big issue. In fact here is what Sidhu says about education on his website:
“California spends billions of our precious tax dollars on education every year. It’s time we started getting what we are paying for. First, we must make sure our schools are safe again. Children should be worrying about the next math exam, not gangs and drugs in their hallways.
Second, I’ll vote to make sure that decision making is not left solely to bureaucratic policymakers. Instead, parents should have a real voice on how the system can be reformed to increase performance. And, that means holding everyone accountable: administrators, teachers, students, and parents.”
Sidhu says that parents should have a voice, and yet Martin, who was not a popular candidate for the AUHSD board last year, was selected over Jordan Brandman who was the runner up for the seat. Astounding.
We certainly deserve to hear from Sidhu and Walters and I can virtually guarantee you Larry that many of their supporters and campaign staff read this blog.
They are dodging the issue, plain and simple, because they don’t want to lose Minuteman votes, IMHO.
Larry,
I emailed the MV Mayor, not a Councilmember. I forget the Mayor’s name…would have been around 2003. It was regarding the developer who wanted to build some low-income housing and the vicious little pamphlet with the picture of a ghetto housing project that was circulated by some members of the community.
Still want to follow up on that?
n2justice.
In our city the mayor is based on a rotation. Let’s see.
The current mayor is Gail Reavis.
Prior mayors were Lance MacLean Trish Kelley and John Paul Ledesma.
Frank Ury was passed up in the rotation as he did not support the incumbents who were reelected.
If you can select the Mayor’s name I will gladly do the follow up.
The issue of affordable housing is large in our city due to efforts by the Public Law Center forcing our council to convert commercial land to residential solely to meet the SCAG recommendations.
Larry,
I believe it was Gail Reavis. I appreciate your offer to follow up, but it’s not necessary. At the time, I wasn’t really expecting the Mayor to take a particular action as a result of my email, other than perhaps a simple “thanks for your input” email response. I basically just wanted to add my voice to the debate.
