Register editorial writer Steven Greenhut noticed a Sacramento Bee editorial regarding our favorite little legislator, Assemblyman Jose Solorio. The editorial summed up Solorio’s Public Safety Committee for what it is – “timid and gullible.”
Here is the meat of the column:
As the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday, neither union leaders nor Solorio could cite instances where police officers were threatened or harmed when their names were made public through disciplinary hearings. That’s telling, since in Los Angeles such names and records were made public for more than a quarter century before last year’s court ruling.
The police unions’ tactics are disappointing, but the real blame rests with Solorio and members of his committee — Greg Aghazarian, R-Stockton, Joel Anderson, R-San Diego, Hector De La Torre, D-South Gate, Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco and Anthony J. Portantino, D-La Ca
Not all politicians need to be back slapping gladhanders even though the majority seem to be. I don’t agree with Jose’s vote on this issue but I like his style and always found his handshake to be quite firm. I admire a leader who knows how to listen, not just talk, and that’s why many people voted for Jose and will re-elect him two more times.
Poster 1,
But the problem is he is NOT listening to his constituents. He is paying heed only to the special interests and unions that write him campaign checks – and of course he is carrying water for Nunez.
People voted for Jose in the primary because they did not know better. And they voted for him in the general because his opponent had no money and no civic resume to speak of.
Solorio won’t be as lucky next time. At this rate he will be facing serious opposition in the primary and in the general.
He can either grow a spine and be a man, or keep selling us out to the special interests that own him. The choice is his.
Name one candidate who can beat Jose.
Art,
“He can either grow a spine and be a man, …. The choice is his.”
ROFLMAO, nope, not this time….jellyfish are invertebrates.
Haven’t you noticed the haircut, same shape as a jellyfish.
Note to Jose: Grow some nuts*, then a spine, and stop going to SuperCuts.

Wow – do you EVER have anything positive to say??? Or do you get off on the negative? You must be a lot of fun to live with. No wonder you are so ineffective at getting your actual point across. No one wants to hear a whiner, Art. Must have been bottle fed.
Poster 5,
Well, let’s see. My wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. So I must be doing something right!
And no, I was not bottle fed. My leche was the real deal. That is how it was back in 1967.
As for being ineffective, please go back and read this post. The Sacramento Bee got the ball rolling, the Register’s Steven Greenhut passed it along, and I put the ball in the hoop. Three points baby!
Poster 3,
I think Nativo Lopez could do it. I think Sal Tinajero could do it.
Hell, at this point El Trabuco could do it. Well, maybe not.
But I hear the Reeps are going to back a moderate Latino with deep roots in the O.C. Latino community…
Any way you slice it, Solorio will have a very rough 2008.
Dude, Art… with money I could do it.
Ryan,
No, you couldn’t. Money does not make the candidate. How many times have we seen rich guys go down in flames? Do the names Huffington, Checchi and Westly ring a bell?
I think you are a good guy, but you have only recently begun to develop what I refer to as a civic resume. Keep at it. Your work as a County and City Commissioner will be one way for you to show the public where you are coming from.
But it takes more than that. It takes education and experience. You need to finish college before you run for anything else. Nothing is more important than that.
I have no doubt that if you desire to pursue politics in the future, you will do quite well – after you get your degree.
As for raising money, it is damn hard. It requires complete commitment and sacrifice. And you have to be REALLY connected to the community. I have only known a handful of decent candidates who were good at this.
If you keep serving the public, doors will open to you. But beware your party machine. Little good will come from those contacts…
So who…I mean what did Ms Martinez do in the community to get elected to the City Council that young Ryan has not done???? Don’t wait until Art or anyone else tells you that “it’s your time” Ryan!

Your girl Michelle Martinez has no degrees, and only recently went back to college. Her high school record is way less than exemplary. Education is probably the weakest point in her resume.
How is it you so blindly support her in direct contradiction to the statement you make above?
