The Register published an amazing story in their sports section today regarding pro baseball player Erasmo Ramirez. He is not a big name. He is a relief pitcher for the Florida Marlins. The story here is that he grew up in Santa Ana – and he STILL LIVES HERE.
Here are a few excerpts: “Santa Ana will always be home,” Florida Marlins left-hander Ram
What is with all these Mexicans, Dominicans and Venezuelans taking over America’s favorite pasttime. THis is obviously an attempt to seize this sport from the American people and replace them with non-American players. The conspiracy exposed!

You’re clueless.
Baseball, as well as other sports, is a business. The owners will always search out the best players. If America isn’t producing enough good players, then they’ll go outside our borders for those players. It’s as simple as that.
On top of that, baseball has become an international sport. Didn’t you notice the Baseball World Championships a couple years ago? (a championship we did NOT win). Baseball may be “America’s pasttime”, but the sport now belongs to the whole world.
And we should be proud of that.
Or about Ted Moreno and his stint in prison
#3. Go blog some where else. Tis is a hometown success story. Take your negativity elsewhere.
Hey #1,
You conspicuously left out the Cubans taking away the white man’s job in baseball, basketball, and soccer.
Hypoctrate! Right-wing nut.
“Or about Ted Moreno and his stint in prison”
HUH??????
What does this have to do with this post?
It is as relevent as Wilshire Square NA President Tim Rush and his stint in prison for ripping off clients.
Thanks for a good hometown story.
Give the large enrollment at Santa Ana high schools, why are the athletic teams generally so crapy? They used to have great teams in lots of sports across the city. Now it seems they rarely have a championship team.
All I ever hear is how BAD Santa Ana is. Here is something great about Santa Ana and people still post negative messages. We should be embracing this story and sharing it with PTA’a and neighborhood associations as something to emulate. This young man is definitely a role model as he continues to give back to his community. In my eyes we need more heroes like him and then maybe, just maybe, Santa Ana will be a better place.
“Here is something great about Santa Ana and people still post negative messages.”
I agree #9.
I personally like story about little Mexican boy from Santa Ana who became the Mayor of Santa Ana.
That is too great story about Santa Ana… Huh?
However, Pedroza hates that story and will post only negative message about such success.
#10,
To whom are you referring?
No “little Mexican boy from Santa Ana” has ever grown up to become Mayor of Santa Ana.
Perhaps when one does we will happily write about it on this blog. I for one hope it happens sooner than later.
To whom are you referring?
#11
I am referring to “little Mexican boy from Santa Ana” not “little Mexican boy born in Santa Ana”.
Please pay attention to your ESL.
Same as Jesus was born in Bethlehem, he was Jesus from Nazareth.
Please pay attention to your intellect too.
#12. Since when has Mayor Chilango ever referred to himself as the “little mexican boy”? Erasmo Ramirez stands 6′ tall and if the mayor stands next to him we can clearly see the mayor is a little man.
The difference here is Erasmo is homegrown and attended SAUSD schools. Mayor Chilango immigrated from Mexico City.
#12,
Miguel is not “from” Santa Ana, he is from Fullerton. In fact he likely lived in Fullerton during his first 6 years on the council. I don’t believe he even owned a home in Santa Ana until 1999.
Check you facts and get them straight.
#14
Perhaps you should revisit OJ article titled “Pulido no es Villaraigosa” written by Thomas Gordon, in retrospect to the recent LA mayoral events…. Sean.
You may also read about the little Mexican boy from Santa Ana.
“Born in Mexico City, he came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 5, unable to speak English. As he was leaving for school, his mother put a note in each of his front pants pockets
#15,
You are correct. I stand corrected. He did live in Wilshire Square and that was during his second term on the council. Up until then he claimed to rent a room near Valley High School.
#16,
That story says nothing about him growing up in Santa Ana. He never went to school here or lived here. He is from Fullerton.
You see how easy it is to discriminate against successful little Mexican boys if they are born in wrong place?
Sean, do not criticize others for same discrimination.
“You see how easy it is to discriminate against successful little Mexican boys if they are born in wrong place?

#18 what the hell are you talking about? You are making no sense at all.
Who am I discriminating against and how?
“Who am I discriminating against and how?”
Go to my original post #10 and read it carefully.
You are discriminating against little Mexican boy born in Mexico City who became Mayor of Santa Ana.
How?… Because you hate him!
If you believe that I am wrong than state that: “The little Mexican boy Miguel Pulido born in the Mexico City who became Mayor of Santa Ana is grate Santa Ana success story regardless where the little Mexican boy was born.”
If not you are hater and discriminator.
The only thing I agree with here is the Mayor is little.
