I was checking out today’s hot stories in the blogosphere, over at blognetnews.com, when lo and behold I came across an item by Allan Bartlett, over at his Powder Blue Report Blog. Apparently Al Gore III was arrested early this morning for possession of marijuana and “numerous small quantities of prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Xanex, Valium and Soma, he said.”
The Register reported this story as well. According to the Register, “The youngest of Al and Tipper Gore’s four children and their only son, Gore lives in Los Angeles and is an associate publisher of GOOD, a magazine about philanthropy aimed at young people.”
Maybe Gore III ought to change the name of his magazine to “Good Sh*t.”
All jokes aside, Gore III is 24. He ought to know better than to drive a car at 100 mph, as he was doing when he was caught. And he surely ought to know better than to take drugs illicitly – he had no prescription for the drugs found in his car.
But can you lay the blame for all of this on his dad? No. Once a kid gets over 18 all you can do is advise. The rest is up to them.
But this is a terribly embarrassing story for the entire Gore family.
One more detail worth noting – Gore III was driving a Prius when he was puled over. As Barlett put it, “The thing that caught me most about this story though was that who knew a Toyota Prius could go 100 mph. Too funny. Oh yeah and doesn’t going 100 mph use a lot more gas? I guess in liberal parlance, this is better known as being “carbon neutral”, LOL. He’s trying to save the planet and destroy his own life at the same time! I can’t wait to see his irie booking photo.
Powder Blue Report Blog is nice blog Art. I liked Allan’s story too.
Furthermore, I found Agent Orange’s response in depth and very interesting.
He makes you think…. Huh?
I’d like to point out one detail that might go unnoticed. Those pills = FELONY.
If any of us regular people were in the same situation and got slapped with a felony, we could probably lose our jobs. You can’t work in Real Estate or banking with a felony. You certainly can’t work as school district employee, etc….
The zero tolerance laws are cutting a wide swath between people who can have decent paying jobs and those who can only be hired at the very lowest rungs.
Ask any parents who have kids in their 20’s-30’s if what Gore’s kid did was all that “unusual” and they will most likely tell you some pretty scary stuff that their own kids or kids that they know, tried to pull off. Especially boys. Boys go thru an “invincible” phase for a lot longer than most girls do – that’s just my opinion 😉
Art, if you’ve got any male children, please pay attention to the harsh consequences that this society puts out on the people/children who fall even once on the wrong side of the law.
Those pills are not all that magical, but they are considered felony posession. If Gore’s kid belonged to any of the posters here, you’d be looking at a Taco Bell lifetime employee.
What’s next – updates on Paris. Develop some journalistic standards and show some class or be consistent by featuring mistakes by your own kids.
The “War on Global Warming” has
been put on hold. Al Gore the 1st
has cancelled all his personal
appearances because of the bust of
Gore III. (This was a BIG inconvenice for Dad!) What will Larry King do now….replay his interview with Paris no doubt! A
couple of things to consider..
Gore III will probably not get
the big Simon & Shuster money for
his novel….and we believe that the Glen Campbell, Mel Gibson or Nick Nolte drunk bust photos were far more theatrical.
Poster 1,
My response to Stanley Fiala’s posts (that is who Agent Orange is) is always “huh?”
Poster 3,
EVERY news source has covered this story, from the Register to CNN. I don’t have a bone to pick with Gore. This story was worth covering because it is a major news story – with considerable implications.
