It seemed for awhile that the gang violence in Santa Ana had petered out, but the Times is reporting today that a man in his 40’s was shot yesterday, on Father’s Day, and “the assailant fled in an unidentified vehicle.” That sounds like another gang shooting.
In recent weeks, both Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein have announced new programs to help fund gang prevention measures, so help is on the way. Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez is looking quite prescient for having started the EPIC (gang prevention) commission when she did.
The City of Santa Ana needs to do more to refocus their spending away so as to prioritize it where it is needed. Solving the gang problem calls for more youth activities, more parks, more libraries, improvements in affordable housing, etc.
You can make a difference by showing up to the Santa Ana City Council meeting tonight and asking the City Council to stop wasting money on the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and on the Bowers Museum. And ask them to start looking into outsourcing our police department to the O.C. Sheriff’s Department. We need to save money now and reinvest it in our community.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m., you can read the agenda at this link. If we don’t show up, they are not going to change their ways!
There is absolutely nothing but your imagination to indicate that this is gang related.
Where did you get the information that it might be?
Why does everone assume that any shooting involving a young brown brother is gang related? Could be girlfried related. Could be drug related. Could be I don’t have a job so I have to rob related. Art’s a good guy so I know he didn’t mean to slight his Latino brothers in this way and if it proves to be gang related then Art was right all along. Thanks for reporting the shootings. Sometimes it seems like no one notices or cares anymore. Thanks also to the Politicos who seem to care. We notice on the street.
What?
It’s not gang related?
OH MY GOD!
We have an anonymous sniper on the loose.

the man shot was 40 years old…it is pretty logical to assume that it was not gang related. Gang related violence unfortunately is a trait of the young. It could have been a fight, a relationship issue or otherwise.
“Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez is looking quite prescient for having started the EPIC (gang prevention) commission when she did.”
So far Martinez accomplished to give more money and power to the SAPD, which have “0” effect on the “gangs” in Santa Ana.
However, her EPIC is total boondoggle.
Seems like everytime they do one of these tribute to gang vicims marches the number of gang shootings increases. Maybe we would should lay off of the marching for a while so things will calm down in my neighborhood!
So it now appears that there have been several shootings in Santa Ana this week. SAPD’s response:
Stepped up traffic enforcement north of 17th. Good job Chief Walters.
