Some of our elected officials in Sacramento can’t find enough ways to give away taxpayer money.
I am proud to report that I was one of thousands of CA voters who contacted Republican Senator Bob Dutton and successfully lobbied to have him withdraw his co-sponsorship of SB 752 “The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (KIDS) Account Act”. This Bill would provide a one time deposit of $500 into a savings account for every child born in CA after January 1, 2008 regardless of their parental income or immigration status.
I have seen a projection states that 566,000 children will be born in CA next year. If that is accurate, and this Bill gets past the 2/rds requirement for passage, it could end up costing us around $285 million per year. Not exactly chump change!
When are we going to place a lid on all of the entitlements being proposed by those who serve in Sacramento? At a time when Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill warns us of a pending shortfall in our revenue stream there will always be those do gooders with these wild brainstorms.
It is the responsibility of parents to teach their children how to handle their money as part of their upbringing. Let’s not have them be part of the entitlement generation before they can even walk or talk.
PS: The $500 gift would be repaid when the recipient reaches the age of 18. Sure!
Perhaps I can stiimulate some exchanges on this post while this Bill is currently being discussed inside the halls of our state Capitol.
Simple question. Do you agree with the proposed Legislation as stated?
Voter apathy in elections is one thing, but fiscal responsibility is another. What say you?
