The Sac Bee just reported that the “Regents of the University of California tentatively voted to raise undergraduate fees Wednesday over the vigorous objections of students.” This tentative seven percent increase raises undergraduate annual fees to about $7,300
This follows a 10 percent increase at the California State University campuses to about $3,400 annually.
On Sept 3rd 2003, during the Recall of Gov Davis, the Cutting Edge-atalk show covered candidate Schwarzenegger when he visited Cal State Long Beach.
During his comments to a gathering of around 800-1,000 students and faculty Arnold said and I quote:
“one thing I can guarantee you ..our children will always be number one”
“it is outrageous, it is outrageous that Sacramento increases tuition by 400 percent in one year..we must never let that happen again”

A word of caution. Throwing percentages around without seeing the whole picture leads to the spin cycle. When we spend around $11,000 per student for K-12 education I am not sure how significant the latest increase has to the overall cost of education.
And for your feedback
Do you feel that the increase is warranted?
Would you recommend a different percentage?
Without comparing the level of education and cost one receives from California’s private schools of higher education is our current tuition schedule a bargain?
Email response follows:
It is still a great deal for a UC. What we need to focus on more is properly preparing our students for higher education. So many kids cannot pass the basic math or English test coming out of our high schools. I heard last night that the Cal State University System is now going to start testing these kids while in high school to catch the problems before they hit college. We are spending money to teach college age students the basics that they did not get in our public education k-12…what a shame!
