Santa Ana Democrat figures to hurt Rosen and Umberg, in race for the 1st Supervisorial District

Martin Wisckol, at the OC Register’s Total Buzz blog, is reporting that Santa Ana Democrat Phu Nguyen has pulled papers for the First Supervisorial District. He joins fellow candidates “Trannie” Trung Nguyen, Brett Franklin, Mark Rosen, Claudia Alvarez and Will B. King. Other candidates who figure to file soon are Garden Grove Councilwoman Janet Nguyen, who would instantly become the only conservative in the race, pathetic Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Bustamante (see him get filleted by Alvarez at www.santaanainsight.com) and disgraced former Assemblyman Tom Umberg, who recently lost to Lou Correa in the primary for the 34th State Senate District.

Phu will do doubt hurt Rosen and Umberg – taking away Vietnamese votes from his fellow Democrats. I expect that he and Umberg will chase Bustamante right out of the race – if he even files. If that happens, expect some of the other candidates to drop out as well.

With all of these liberals and moderates in the race, I expect Janet Nguyen to prevail in a hotly contested battle. As the only conservative, she will draw votes the other candidate’s can’t touch. I hope to see her step up to Supervisor John Moorlach’s side soon, re public employee pensions. I know she will be the staunchest anti-PLA candidate.
