Martin Wisckol, at the OC Register’s Total Buzz blog, is reporting that Santa Ana Democrat Phu Nguyen has pulled papers for the First Supervisorial District. He joins fellow candidates “Trannie” Trung Nguyen, Brett Franklin, Mark Rosen, Claudia Alvarez and Will B. King. Other candidates who figure to file soon are Garden Grove Councilwoman Janet Nguyen, who would instantly become the only conservative in the race, pathetic Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Bustamante (see him get filleted by Alvarez at www.santaanainsight.com) and disgraced former Assemblyman Tom Umberg, who recently lost to Lou Correa in the primary for the 34th State Senate District.
Phu will do doubt hurt Rosen and Umberg – taking away Vietnamese votes from his fellow Democrats. I expect that he and Umberg will chase Bustamante right out of the race – if he even files. If that happens, expect some of the other candidates to drop out as well.
With all of these liberals and moderates in the race, I expect Janet Nguyen to prevail in a hotly contested battle. As the only conservative, she will draw votes the other candidate’s can’t touch. I hope to see her step up to Supervisor John Moorlach’s side soon, re public employee pensions. I know she will be the staunchest anti-PLA candidate.

Is Janet paying you to post all this ludicrous spin?
God Himself could enter the race, and you would find some way to spin as helping janet Nguyen.
This blog — or at least your posts — are becoming completely unbelievable.
Wisckol splashed along in OC Blog’s wake on this one Art. Just can’t bear to give them credit, huh? Is it because they haven’t guzzled the Janet Nguyen Kool-Aid like you?
Poster 1,
Van Tran says Trung Nguyen is the most viable candidate – and you take me to task? Are you kidding? Tran should be drug checked for making that statement.
Poser #2,
Didn’t know that. Kudos to Red County/OC Blog then. Honestly though, who cares?
Art, exactly how does Phu Nguyen’s candidacy affect Bustamante? He doesn’t take away any republican votes that Carlos was going to get. But he does hurt Janet by taking away Janet’s Vietnamese republican votes. The real question is, how much is Janet paying you Art?
Brett Franklin is also conservative and anti-PLA. But Phu hurts Janet whose ONLY hope is to have a united Vietnamese block vote….but Van Tran took care of that. Claudia will torch Janet and most likely Bustamante. Umberg may be the only candidate who can beat her. Let Janet blow that $200,000.
Janet was endorsed by the OCYR’s tonight – by 33 votes to 12 (not sure on the numbers, but it was a big margin). Not too late to pull out Carlos!
BTW folks, I don’t take money from candidates. I am supporting Janet because she is the only conservative candidate. She is also a friend and I wish her well.
B/R,
Franklin had less votes than Reuben Ross when they ran for the Rancho Board. He is a Republican, but he has been too quiet over the years and has not stood up for GOP values. And he has backed Dems like Pulido. Ergo his lack of GOP support.
I agree that Claudia takes out Carlos – but she already lost to Umberg once. And he just lost too. Janet doesn’t lose. She will win – just watch.

Show me how so.
We’ll have to wait and see if she’ll really be as “staunch” on PLAs as you hope she will be.
Don’t hold your breath brother.
Isn’t that a little premature for the OCYRs to endorse a candidate when the filing period isn’t over, and when the endorsed candidate hasn’t even formally announced her candidacy yet…or am I just crazy?
Didn’t know that. Kudos to Red County/OC Blog then.
Yeah. right. You just happened to grab tghe same Phu photo OC Blog had.

Art, that only demonstrates how much Dave Gilliard controls the OCYRs.
Carlos is a squish. But Janet has no political core either. Didn’t Miss Anti-PLA work for pro-PLA Cynthia Coad?
Face it, Art — Janet is a climber who runs for the next available office. You’ve seen the type before — I just can’t believe you can’t recognize it in her.
Here’s how this thing plays out. Umberg enters race. Janet and Carlos bow out to save their money and a little face. If they run and get 3rd or 4th or 5th in the race they lose all their money and draw LOTS of opponants if they run for re-election. Who will be your “true” conservative when Janet quits Art? Some true conservative in the Lynn Daucher mold who you morphed into a conservative candidate after the primary and before she got spanked in the General.
Lynn Daucher got spanked?
I’m pretty sure she won absentees by 17 points and had the lead through 10 out of 12 days of ballot counting.
She lost, granted, but spanked? Hardly.
Especially considering Otto.
OK maybe Lynn did not get spanked. It was more of a Time Out.
