Plenty of drama in the First Supervisorial District today. Total Buzz and Red County/OC Blog reported that OC GOP powerhouse Michael Schroeder signed on as co-chair of the Trung Nguyen idea. Ryan Williams tells me that Schroeder is an old friend of Van Tran, which explains the rather strange move. What is going to happen when Trung Nguyen does poorly in the election? WillTran and Schroeder apologize to the OC GOP for undermining the leading conservative candidate, Garden Grove Council Member Janet Nguyen?
In related news, apparently Lupe Moreno (pictured above) has pulled papers for this race as well. This is odd as I spoke to her a couple of days ago and I thought she was going to stay out of the race. She did tell me that she is coming back to the GOP. Her friend Jim Gilchrist did so a few months ago, so I am not surprised that she is now coming back to the Republican Party too.
If Moreno does run you have to figure that she will hurt Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante’s chances. However, Moreno is also a conservative, and as such she could hurt Janet Nguyen. I remain hopeful that Moreno will endorse Janet and withdraw from the field, but who knows? I do know that Moreno likes to use political campaigns to get her message out. Such is likely the case this time around too.
Lastly, a group of misguided rich people called Generation Next has endorsed Bustamante, according to Red County/OC Blog. What is that saying about a fool and his money? This endorsement does not matter. Bustamante is going to be embarrassed in this election. Mark my words – he won’t even be in the top three when the smoke clears.
