Odd item in the OC Register today. Bruce Matthias, the OC GOP politico who is alleged to have helped Otto Bade with his ill-conceived write-in campaign against Lynn Daucher, was appointed to a county commission by Supervisor Bill Campbell. A source told me that former State Senator John Lewis likely had something to do with this.
You have to wonder if Matthias really did help Bade. Allegedly several witnessess saw them together at the OC Registrar’s office when Bade filed his paperwork. Nice reward for Matthias, who presumably is now trying to salvage his reputation as a Republican. Of course he may not have helped Bade, but other sources told me that he helped Bade in his original Assembly campaign against Tom Umberg and that Bade still owes Matthias a lot of money for his services. Hmmm…
Here is the OC Register article in question:
Bruce Matthias, 57, who has long been active in GOP circles, was appointed without discussion by the Board of Supervisors to the county’s Human Relations Commission.
Matthias, of Anaheim Hills, was nominated by Supervisor Bill Campbell after Campbell’s previous appointee, Monsignor John Urell, withdrew from consideration last month.
Urell came under fire for being part of the cover-up of the Orange County Diocese’s sex abuse scandal.
