Villasenor’s fundraising

By special request, here is Amy Taxin’s report on Santa Ana Council Candidate Jennifer Villasenor’s fundraising, as published in the Total Buzz blog.

Santa Ana fundraising: Villasenor’s wellspring

So far, Jennifer Villasenor is leading in fundraising for Santa Ana’s Ward 6 Council race. But of the $11,009 Villasenor has raised since July, nearly half has come from executives connected to real estate developer Arthur Birtcher, according to campaign filing disclosures.

The papers show that Villasenor, a city planner for Huntington Beach and a UC Irvine cheer coach, received $1,000 on Sept. 27 from each of four executives at Birtcher Anderson Realty LLC and $1,000 from Arthur B. Birtcher Revocable.

Birtcher — co-chair of San Juan Capistrano-based Birtcher Anderson Realty – has a lengthy history of investing in Santa Ana. Villasenor is backed by Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, who has faced criticism from Villasenor’s opponent in the Ward 6 Council race, Sal Tinajero.

Tinajero, a Santa Ana Unified board member and Fullerton Union High School teacher, has raised $5,049 to date in his race for Council. The third candidate vying for the seat, videographer George Collins, has accepted the $1,000 campaign spending limit and as a result does not file contribution lists with the Clerk of the Council.
