Note: My “heads up” on the following infomercial is from Steve Greenhut’s Orange Punch.
I first met Verla and Leo Lambert in June of 2002 when they, along with Manny Ballestero and many of their neighbors, protested the “takings” of their Garden Grove homes to make way for a new theme park along Harbor Boulevard.
To hear and see this courageous couple, who were some of the leaders in stopping the Garden Grove City Council from a major “eminent domain” action, simply go to www.90Yes.com and hear their 30 second story. I still have their picket sign that reads “Save Our Homes.” As Leo says it could happen to you!

Don’t buy the hype. Prop 90 is a Taxpayer Trap. Over 95% of its backing money ($3.5 million) comes from fabulously wealthy guys named Howard.
1) Howard S. Rich, the most infamous financier of this election cycle. He’s a New Yorker who is backing similar initiatives in several states
2) Howard Ahmanson, Jr. This reclusive Tourette’s sufferer supports intelligent design, opposed gay marriage and stem cell research, and flip-flops on whether it’s okay to punish homosexuals and adulterers by stoning them to death.
That leaves less than $200k raised by Californians, compared to over $5 Million raised by the No to 90 Campaign, only $21,000 of which comes from out of state.
Thanks, Alex, for revealing the true forces behind Prop 90.
This initiative would not “save our homes”…
It would only throw our environmental, land use, and zoning laws into a complete tailspin! This initiative ONLY benefits HUGE PROPERTY DEVELOPERS, and is opposed by a BIPARTISAN COALITION spanning veryone from the Chamber of Commerce to the Sierra Club. (How often do you see THEM agreeing?)
Prop 90 is just a taxpayer trap…
I urge everyone here to check out http://noprop90.com to see the other side and notice how dangerous this initiative is to California.
Andrew you are drinking too much Kool Aide.
Larry Gilbert
I agree with Larry both of you have been drinking kool aide served up by the people who benifit from eminent domain victims. My 10 units with 12 low income people living there was taken last Dec. 15 by the City of Long Beach.RDA’s have been on a gravy train too long, Prop 90 will save small property owners from the threat of eminent domain. The part I like best about Prop. 90 is RDA’s have to prove “blight” parcel by parcel. The City of Riverside would not have been able to declare 8,000 acres “blighted” if Prop. 90 was in effect in 2004.

Jean;
Eminent domain abuse is a terrible thing. But Prop 90 is worse. Using eminent domain as a mask, what it will ACTUALLY do is bankrupt the state.
Why?
It’s so poorly written that with any dispute, both sides will be able to litigate until the cows come home.
Not to mention that by Long Beach’s standards, 50% of the city is constantly in a state of blight. Have fun!
To say that Prop 90 opponents like eminent domain abuse is nothing more than a straw man argument. What I don’t like is frivolous litigation.
“To say that Prop 90 opponents like eminent domain abuse is nothing more than a straw man argument. What I don’t like is frivolous litigation.”
Hmmm… I thought it was the CONSERVATIVES that always complained about “frivious lawsuits”?
Now following up on what Alex was saying earlier about NEW YORK resident Howard Rich, check out the transcript of this PBS invesigation into Rich’s funding of a similar initiative in Montana:
http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/238.html
Now do we want a super-wealthy New Yorker telling us how to regulate the use of our land?
I’m sorry, but I think Californians can do a better job at that… I’m voting NO on 90!
