By: Garden Grove Councilwoman Janet Nguyen
Last week, Garden Grove has lost one of our own hero who died while defending our freedom and protecting America from terrorism.
Petty Officer 2nd Class, Michael Monsoor, 25, grew up in Garden Grove, attending Dr. Walter C. Ralston Intermediate School and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1999. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, a sister, nieces and nephews.
In this time of challenge, we should take time to recognize the many soldiers, like Michael Monsoor, who have made the ultimate sacrifice and those who are still making the sacrifice, in our continuing fight to protect the world against tyranny. Their selfless sacrifice represents the essence of the American sprit, just as the flag they defend with their lives is the embodiment of that sacrifice.
“I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom” President Abraham Lincoln (November 21, 1864).
To a fellow American, Garden Grove resident and Garden Grove Argonaut graduate, Michael Monsoor may you rest in peace and thank you.
Art,
Nice suck up to Janet Nguyen on her fluff piece in which she uses a recently killed veteran to remind people she’s running for Correa’s seat if Correa wins in Novemeber. Simply tasteless, crude and crass. Have you no shame, sir?
Why would anyone pay tribute to a falling hero? Is that your typo, Art or is that as she actually sent out her announcement? How embarrassing for her and disgraceful towards Mr. Monsoor if she did.
Settle down Bubba Bustamante supporters! Is Carlos still actively campaigning for Democratic Santa Ana City Council candidates?
I think it is great that Janet Nguyen recognized the sacrifice of this Garden Grove-native soldier.
