Pulido’s mayoral candidate statement
The City Clerk of Santa Ana is not providing local candidate’s statements online. A little pajarito however obtained Mayor Miguel Pulido’s statement, and I am reproducing it here for the benefit of our readers:
I’m proud to he your mayor and to have led our city into becoming a model for the nation. Years of hard work and planning have reaped positive results:
Safety: Brilliant law enforcement strategies. Visionary prevention programs. Santa Ana now boasts among the lowest crime rates of any city our size in America.
Economic Development: I’ve helped attract unprecedented levels of investment into the city. lust look around. The downtown Renaissance. The Federal Courthouse. Museum district. Artist’s Village. Mid-town Revival. Mainplace upgrade. Property values up citywide.
Schools: We’re implementing creative solutions to improve education.
Streets/Parks: I’ve delivered $300 million to improve streets and parks.
Human Need: I’ve helped secure millions in Empowerment funds to help our least advantaged.
We need to do more. We must take advantage of momentum. We have a detailed plan to
continue reducing crime, invigorating our business distrieis, revitalizing our neighborhoods and focusing on areas of the city that need more attention.
I want you to be proud of the choice you’ve made to live in Santa Ana. I respectfully ask for your support and pledge to work hard to make our city even better.

Does Pulido live in the same city I live in? I don’t see how this statement helps him. Will the voters buy into doublespeak? I don’t think so.
Are we sure he’s talking about Santa Ana in Orange County California? I hate to be harsh, but when I think of Santa Ana, I think of a city that used to be a bastion of the middle class that has been turned into one big great clownhouse courtesy of federal government for not enforcing the immigration laws.
The mayor has no jurisdication over any of the public schools in Santa Ana. Of course, he could be referring to Rob Richardson as the creative solution.
Not!
Allan,
When the Republican Congress finally fixes immigration…
(sorry I had to laugh heartily there for a minute) who are you going to blame for the problems in Santa Ana? We have had multiple issues in this city for years and immigration is just one of them.
Please stop using Allan Mansoor’s talking points and blaming all the brown people. What next? Catholic Charities is the devil because they help the homeless? You are a much better person then that.
300 Million dollars to fix roads and parks?
I would love to know what this city pays per lane mile.
If we paid 100 thousand per lane mile, this city should have done 3000 miles of road.
If we paid 200 thousand per lane mile, this city should have done 1500 miles of road.
How does your street look today?
In 2005 the county hired Nichols Consulting Engineers of Huntington Beach to do a county wide assessment of existing and future pavement needs in Orange County.
In reviewing the status of OC streets since 1998 (the first year a countywide review of pavement conditions was made) Nichols found a measurable deterioration in the quality of the pavement in the OC.
Using a 100 point pavement condition index, with 100 points being optimum, OC’s overall pavement condition dropped by 7.4%, from a PCI of 81 in 1998 to a PCI of 75 in 2005.
“The deterioration is more pronounced for residential / local streets than for arterial collectors” Nichols reported.
Overall, the report said that 31.5% of the pavement rated poor or very poor.
In 1998 25.8% of the pavement in the county rated poor or very poor, a 22% increase in the inventory of bad pavement in 7 years.
Anonymous,
We don’t even really need any new immigration laws. We just need to enforce the existing ones. IMO the GOP has already ceded the House and the Senate is close to changing hands.
Getting back to Santa Ana though, when I think of a word association game, I don’t put fine city and Santa Ana in the same ballpark. As a 1988 graduate of the best school in the city(Mater Dei), it saddens me to see a once great city become such an eyesore on Orange County. I’ll try to remain optimistic I guess. You guys have nowhere to go but up.
Allan,
It is interesting how everytime you post something it is always against immigration. Surely you can find more flaws regarding the Mayor than just that?
How about OBP?
How about the lack of enforcement on prostitution?
How about street repairs?
Do any of those have to do with immigration?
I think you are just full of hate for some reason, were you beaten up when you were young by someone while walking to Mater Dei?
Santa Ana voters need to ask themselves: Is Santa Ana better off than it was 12 years ago? Is Downtown safer? Are more people investing in Santa Ana?
Housing prices are still the lowest in all of O.C. Mayor Pulido did nothing to raise neighborhood worth.
Unfortunately, those who did care about Santa Ana (and showed it through the beautification of their homes and landscapes) are now leaving.
Education is not improving. The old system is not working. There are better systems to teach inner city, under privileged or non-english native speakers. The Santa Ana system rolls out fat and lethargic kids who just stare in a daze.
There was an article in the LA Times about SA’s vending machines going on a diet. Ever notice the obesity on the streets?
Is the mayor so blind he doesn’t see his own city may need a health club or two or more? How about that old YMCA building? How long has it been in decay?
