Verino out of Santa Ana School Board race
A Santa Ana insider revealed last night that Sergio Verino pulled out of the race for the Santa Ana School Board after the local teacher’s union declined to support him. Verino, a Santa Ana city inspector and former Santa Ana school police officer, was thought to be an ally of incumbent John Palacio, who is up for reelection.
The remaining candidates are Palacio, Audrey Noji and Cecilia Aguinaga. Getting rid of Noji is going to be a bit tougher now…
Awwww, Sergio.
Who cares about the Teachers’ union? So, they don’t want to support you… screw ’em.
Santa Ana’s kids are more important!
Please run.
If not Sergio, why not Lynette Verino???
It is clear that no mater how you shake the bag in Santa Ana politics you will always end up with a Latino.
For a result of that you may look to Mexico.
The incompetence, corruption and union crimes are trademarks.
No free spirit thinking.
Why not?? Go for it!!
Anyone other than Noji or Cecelia.
But they gotta get in gear… the filing deadline is today.
Stanley, the candidates you refer to are U.S citizens comitted to representing all of the city’s residents without contempt for some of it’s population. This differentiates you from them.Your platform as you presented it is to campaign for the anti-Mayor vote ,the bingo voter and the anti-mexican voter. This is why your campaign is a joke. You have accused our President and the Republican party of incompetence ,corruption and union crimes as trademarks also. They are not Latino. How ignorant of you.Art Lomeli
The Socialist Art Lomely stated: “Your platform as you presented it is to campaign for the anti-Mayor vote ,the bingo voter and the anti-mexican voter. This is why your campaign is a joke.”
Since when it is a joke to represent oppressed minority?……… Art!
Stanley,
Is there anyone who is not a socialist and no one whom is intelligent in your view?
Stanley the oppressed minority you represent :(1)The anti mayor vote-They don’t care for you or your issues. they simply cast a vote for you in order to send a message.(2)Bingo voters you describe them as brain dead (3) anti Mexican voters-Bigots.You are right they are a minority.Have fun.You have a very impressive and relevant following Stan. Art Lomeli
“Stanley, is there anyone who is not a socialist and no one whom is intelligent in your view?”
Absolutely Luis, only I can meet such qualities!
In addition to my extremely high IQ I am very modest and humble person who is not trying to show it.
What is wrong with Noji? I thought she was well educated. And I know that she was backed by the teachers.
Shouldn’t everyone on the school board have a college education and be backed by educators?
Mary
According to the County web site Audrey Noji filed for the school board with NO ballot designation. Wouldn
What are the education backgrounds of the Verinos?
“What are the education backgrounds of the Verinos?”
They both gots one.
Sorry guys – I won’t be running for the school board. I am going to have my hands full helping Thomas Gordon to defeat Miguel Pulido.
I’ve never understood whyy someone with no children (Rob Richardson) should be allowed to run for the School Board.
I’m certain there are a few capable childless education advocates, but I imagine they are few and far in between.
I don”t know what the citizenship requirements for SAUSD are but I would rather see a Non-Citizen parent as opposed to a Non-parent.
I believe in New York, you get to vote locally regardless of immigration status (school board, burrogh rep etc..).
Noji wants to downplay the fact that she has served 16 years on the board. The community needs to ask: what has she done for us the past 16 years?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing!
Where is the Q&A site?
I have several Q’s I would like to ask?
Anyone other than, verino, cecilia, verino or ?????.

Santa Ana’s kids are more important!
Is why none of the challengers are competent, enough to be on the board!
Cecilia, What’s 4×4?
hint:
it isn’t 8.
8/11/2006 6:33 PM
So, who would you suggest be on the school board?
Cecilia?
Palacio?
give a freakin’ break!
1st Q.
Are you a resident of Santa Ana?
2nd.
Are you an Employee of SAUSD?
3rd.
Save this, noji looses you will be in 2x the trouble in every aspect of the word.
Do you know who this cecilia person is?
She is clueless and will be as incompetent as they come, if by the stroke of misfortune wins.
Saying goes!
Don’t wish for something because it just might come true!
If you are district staff, remember this, and come back 2 months after Nov. post a thread on what you think of cecilia as a board member!
It won’t be positive.
You want to go forward not backwards, do not even consider cecilia for board.

You can’t change your true colors, sergio!
SAEA, new better than to waste their time with you, they know who and where you really stand!
better luck, never!
Why did you quit, SAUSD?
Please run.

Yeah! please run, keep running and don’t turn back!
The voters have given Noji 16 years to serve. That’s enough.
AYP tests will be posted soon and we’ll learn that more schools have slipped into PI status; school starts 8/31 and there will be overcrowded classrooms, despite Noji’s claim there will be no overcrowded classrooms.
There’s no reason to settle for the same; stretching Noji’s years of service to 20 years only delays the change that needs to take place in the district.
No employee is given that much slack for poor performance.

Are you forgeting to mention that Noji was out of the district for how many years!
In the mean time, who was running a mock and doing back door deals and brought in how many incompetent district managers and school administrators? NL
So, besides Noji, who do you want to replace her with? Cecilia, please, she has enough trouble finishing a sentence and has the brains of a rock!
Since you dislike Noji so much, maybe you should have made sure a competent person was in the race!
Anon at 7:38 don’t let your anger consume you, it’s not good for your health. Try and keep to the facts.
Nativo defeated Audrey and she was sidelined for 4-years; that’s one term. The math still adds up to 16 years on the school board.
Despite Noji’s educational training, she cannot secure a job as a president of a community college; the teachers have turned on Noji because she has not been forthright. It’s a shame that a person with her educational skills has quandered 16 years on the SAUSD school board. SAUSD is no better than the first day she assumed office.
The scores will be released soon.
It’s not just the test scores at issue.
Remember that little pay cut the teachers took to help out the district whne the times were lean? It’s coming time for the district to make up that shortfall plus cost of living. With their declining enrollment and fiscal management style, the board simply won’t have the money.
Will we see a teacher’s strike on the horizon?

I would like to respond to the anonymous poster of 8/13/2006 7:38 PM.
Before I say want I am going to say, let me lay bare some of my credentials. By telling you a bit about who I am, will it give me more credibility? You will have to decide.
I have been a teacher for more than 30 years. I have an advanced degree in an academic subject and in education from a well known out of state university. I have a proven track record in education. My students have done quite well on state testing before NCLB and since NCLB. I am good at what I do and my evaluations will prove that to be true.
I have met Cecilia Aguinaga on several occasions. On one occasion she made it clear to me that she really likes Dr. Al Mijares. Despite he questionable taste in superintendents, I like Cecilia. Yes, her English language skills are not as polished as, for example, Dr. Al Mijares. On the other hand I found her honest, direct, compassionate, with her heart in the right place. She also seemed to be quite shrewd recognizing he limitations and willing to listen and learn and grow. I really believe she is a diamond in the rough. Should she be elected to the school board, Cecilia’s experience there will almost certainly bring out the luster and sheen hidden beneath her present opalescent exterior.
Please remember, we have had lots of “slick willys” on the school board and in the highest reaches of SAUSD administration over the last dozen years and most have proven to be well groomed, expensively tailored empty suits.
In the final analysis, the question everyone should be asking is this: How can we improve the educational experience of all students in SAUSD? The answer is really quite simple. If the teachers are happy, the students will be happy. Happy students work harder, strive toward greater heights, do better on state exams, improve their grades, graduate in greater numbers, and love to come to school. What we have seen over the last half dozen years is the polar opposite of what I have written above and SAUSD’s performance proves it.
In my estimation Cecilia Aguinaga will make a positive contribution to turning around SAUSD and a fine replacement for Dr. Audrey Noji.
Does anyone know what happened with that lawsuit involving the three counselors?
It sure would be nice if the DA showed up at SAUSD and did investigations.

I teach second grade in SAUSD and must unhappily report that one result of the No Child Left Behind Act is rampant SOCIAL PROMOTION. In spite of all the push for standards, our district, like most has NO SPECIFIC STANDARDS for promotion. Often our students are promoted based on:
age
size
having made “some” progress
Often these children are over a year behind grade level in every academic area. The teachers don’t want them promoted, it’s the administrators who force the issue with the parents (since it’s ultimately the parent’s choice). Administration doesn’t want to admit any weaknesses in “the program”.
I hope someday more people will wake up to the importance of placing children according to academic ability. Folks seem to understand the concept at the high school/college level… no one would allow a freshman who flunks Algebra I to enroll in Calculus. Yet, at the most crucial time academically for a student, when they are having foundations placed that will last a lifetime (like reading), they are shoved ahead and “interventioned” hoping for the best. How sad to see a student who is totally frustrated and unmotivated because the work is so far beyond them.
Every year it gets worse. This year I have 1 student of 19 who is at grade level. Eight are working at 1st grade level. TEN are working at Kinder level (Most of these ten came from a classroom that was being “taught” by a long term substitute for six months since the District was too cheap to hire a full-time teacher after the regular teacher went out on maternity leave). My principal is anti-retention and not open to dialogue. In fact, when I went to him to explain these children need to be in first grade again, he had the resource teacher TEST them! So much for respecting my opinion. Four weeks later, the tests are back. Surprise, the kids are even lower than I had thought! His answer, “Well, I guess you’ve got your work cut out for you!” That’s administration for you, real supportive.
Anyway, I thought some folks would like to know how our tax dollars are being misspent. Perhaps some day administrators will have to run their schools like a business and produce a quality product…better yet, maybe someday teachers will run the schools!

I see that her occupation is listed as School Police Coordinator. Does she work for SAUSD?
Are the candidate statements displayed on a website for the public to read?
Back in March of this year, Al Mijares defended Rosie Avila’s politically motivated lies. It was the subject of a thread on this blog. Here is the link for anyone else who wants to see what a self-serving school board member looks like. Noji and Avila seem to cancel each other out when it comes to egos and political agendas.

You just met one!
Obviously; hook, line, and sinker!
Since you have worked in the district for several decades, you must know several members of the “PTA council of Santa Ana”, why don’t you talk to any of them and then write a thread!
Also, you want to put credibility in you post, put your name to it.
Cecilia, if you have any brains, follow sergio’s lead.
SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET will come out!
To anonymous posting at 8/14/2006 11:56 PM
The “feeling” I got from your post was one of intimidation.
You wrote: “You just met one!” after quoting back to me my reference to empty suits populating top district administrative positions.
(“Please remember, we have had lots of “slick willys” on the school board and in the highest reaches of SAUSD administration over the last dozen years and most have proven to be well groomed, expensively tailored empty suits.”)
You then went on to write: “Also, you want to put credibility in you (sic) post, put your name to it.”
May I ask the same of you?
And finally, is it possible for you to hold a reasonable and rational discussion without resorting to threats?
“In my estimation Cecilia Aguinaga will make a positive contribution to turning around SAUSD and a fine replacement for Dr. Audrey Noji. “
Does she work at SAUSD? Would that be a conflict of interest?

She works in school police services, she is a community worker for miyashiro, she carries his messagaes to the community!
She has worked in the department for about 2 years.
Question?
2 part Q.
Cecilia, you work in the same department as the miyashiro victims, you can not possibly say that you know nothing!
Are you willing to come forward and fire school police chief or will you just turn the other way like mijares?
Cecilia, if elected would one of your first official duities be to get rid of school police chief?
Nov. 7 vote Noji!
Noji has had plenty of time to get things right. Side with the union this time. No on Noji.
I agree, but we also need someone competent, I do not mean Cecilia.
She might have the heart in the right place, but it will take more than that.
We need someone who can make tough decisions, remember Cecilia works for the district.
she is the chief of police community liaison, you can not tell me that she does or did not know the chief’s extra curricular activities when everyone else knows.
Like this thread said,

She needs to make it clear, over and over again!
Will she come forward, like Mijares did against NL and pledge that she will rid sausd of this type of scum!
She goes public, she will be on the board come NOVEMBER!
What are you going to do, Cecilia?
Show what you are made off!
She is meeting w/ the union. Let’s see if they endorse her like they did for Palacio.
If any union endorses cecilia, the union leaders are dumber than she is.
If SAEA, endorses her they should all be recalled.
They did not endorse noji, because?
If they think they will get anything from endorsing cecilia, they don’t know her!
If SAEA, endorses her they should all be recalled.

If they think they will get anything from endorsing cecilia, they don’t know her!
They didn’t endorse Noji because of her poor record of performance over a decade+. If you have read any commentary, you would know the specifics including nepotism, sexual predators, mismanagement of funds, failing schools, incompetency that is shielded and rewarded…. the list is long. Noji has overseen all that. Who else can you blame for that? Two years ago she was quoted as someone who would evaluate Saddleback’s principal that released that nutty memo about passing failing students. The principal is still there doing some rotten things. Noji is aware of those things. She does not take leadership or action.
You are negative about Cecilia. But why?
http://www.aclunc.org/students/ca-school-complaint.html
What is SAUSD doing to stay in compliance with the terms of this California lawsuit? What is risk management and the districts attorneys suggesting to the board to make sure that SAUSD serves the needs of its students?
1. Tens of thousands of children attending public schools located throughout the State of California are being deprived of basic educational opportunities available to more privileged children attending the majority of the State
