Republican’s rival in primary focuses on activism rather than elections

Lupe Moreno, whose father smuggled Mexicans across the border, has gained national exposure for her activism in opposing illegal immigration, including appearances on most major television networks.
But one person not paying attention to her is the campaign consultant for Lynn Daucher, whom Moreno is facing in the June 6 Republican primary for the 34th state Senate District.

“We expect to win the primary,” said consultant Jim Nygren, who is already mailing campaign literature to Democrats in anticipation of the November general election. “The winner of the Democratic primary will come out very well known. Our goal is to build up a base in the district. (Daucher) is not as well known as the Democrats.”

Daucher, a termed-out assemblywoman from Brea, rented an apartment in the Senate district in January to qualify for the race. Her Assembly district covers the northeastern corner of the Senate district, while the two Democrats
