Rosie Avila woos contributors at the Paradise Pier Hotel

I don’t normally like to attend political fundraising dinners, but I had the opportunity to sit in on Rosie Avila’s event tonight, at the Disney Paradise Pier Hotel, in Anaheim. There were well over 100 well-heeled Avila fans in attendance, including numerous elected officials and candidates. Orange County Supervisors Chris Norby, Jim Silva and Bill Campbell were in attendance, as well as Claude Parrish from the Board of Equalization, and Nancy Padberg, a candidate for the Orange County Superior Court. I found out that Parrish is also running for California State Treasurer.

Other Republican activists in attendance included YAF’er turned political consultant Brian Park; Reva Renee Renz, the always charming former gubernatorial candidate who is now running for the OC GOP Central Committee in the 69th Assembly District; Ryan Gene Williams, the GOP candidate for the 69th Assembly District; Steven Sarkis, a CRA member who is unbelievably backing RINO Lynn Daucher (?!?) for the 34th State Senate District; influential Vietnamese Republican Assembly leader Cuong Sing Cao; and the very hard-working GOP campaign volunteer Jon Aiken. Kay Weymouth, the executive director of the OC GOP, was also there, along with several of her staffers. Tim Whitacre, the longtime GOP activist and Central Committee member, served as the MC for the evening, in his capacity as Chair of the Avila campaign.

The contributors paid $250 per seat, and many gave much more before leaving.

The strangest part of the evening was the fact that former OC GOP Chairman Tom Fuentes was not there. This was exactly the kind of function that he loved to MC in years past. However, he is now on the payroll of Tan Nguyen, the former Democrat who is opposing Avila for the GOP nomination in the 47th Congressional District. Too bad. Fuentes missed out on a fun evening – and Avila looks like she is ready to take on Loretta…
