New bloggers join the Orange Juice
I would like to thank all of our readers for supporting this site and take this opportunity to introduce our new co-bloggers. Thomas Gordon and Luis Rodriguez are community activists in Santa Ana. Each comes from a different part of the political spectrum, and together they will provide balanced insight into local politics in the Orange County seat.
Gordon works for the Los Angeles Unified School District and Rodriguez works for Ditech, a mortgage company. They are both well-versed in local politics and I think will fit in well with what Claudio Gallegos and I have been doing this year. I think our readers will enjoy perusing what Gordon and Rodriguez contribute to the Orange Juice.
Oh goodie! more boys!
My only concern: That this site will digress to the low levels of the Santa Ana Citizens’s List.
Anonymous 7:38 and 8:10,
Thanks for your input. I know that Claudio would be happy to welcome female co-bloggers to our site. However, one of our stipulations is that our co-bloggers must post with their real names – no pseudonyms or nom de plumes.
Most, if not all, of our current female posters do not use their real names and as such would be precluded from joining the ranks of our co-bloggers.
Secondly, one of my goals for this site is to provide balance. I believe that our current co-bloggers are in fact all over the political map – that is a good thing in my opinion.
I have asked Thomas and Luis to use the same standards that Claudio and I adhere to, and I am confident that they will. Claudio and I will continue to have administrative oversight over all posts to this blog.
I hope that I have answered your questions.
Congrats on adding to the blogstaff. With more frequent postings this blog is really coming of age. My only request is that you post items of interest that pertain to areas outside of central OC.
Missy,
I will do my best to address issues in all areas of OC, and I am sure everyone else will do the same. Thanks for the welcome!
Congrat’s on the new team. I’d like to see more Fem Bloggers too on Orange Juice. Also, expanded coverage would be swell. Aren’t there any chicks out there that like to write??? Come on gals!
Why don’t you invite Nadia Davis Lockyear to blog with you boys. She could bring a statewide angle, knows Santa Ana, and is so hot looking that even Commie Girl digs her!
Great additions. Welcome!
Claudio/Art-
Is there a way to list recent comments like OC Blog. I’m getting addicted to reading/commenting here and would like an easy way to determine where the recent activity is without checking each one. I’m spending way too much time here already!
Publius,
I am not sure how to do what you are asking, but I was able to add a search feature to our site. If you go to our home page and scroll down to the very bottom of the page, you will find the search feature. I hope it helps!
Santa Ana Citizens list just sank to a new low; the moderator/s issued a moratorium on discussing illegal immigration.
Some “viejta” whined about people’s perception the list was an adjunct of CommLink and was dismayed that students were reading the hateful postings.
Yes, the postings regarding illegal immigration have been hateful and bordering on racism. I personally think it’s important the students learn first-hand how hateful some residents are because the conversation could pertain to their parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and family friends.
Illegal immigration is one of the most talked about topics and teachers have taken it upon themselves to introduce this topic in the Santa Ana classroom and the Santa Ana Citizens list provided the students a glimpse of how some residents disdain their presence in our community.
On the flip side, the students also learned first-hand how uncomfortable it was for the viejita to read those hateful messages and how she used them as her personal scapegoat to lobby for a moratorium on this subject.
Ah, censorhip at work with the the kid-twist. That’s disingenious. These students are on the brink of being adults; they can handle the hateful talk we adults post. Viejita, if it gets too hot in the kitchen, then get out and don’t shut down the talk because you can’t handle it!
It’s unfortunate the moderator/s succumbed to the pressure of this viejita and others by imposing this censorhsip. I’ve been told by one teacher that this act of censorship will be the basis for a discussion on the the First Amendment.
If any students are reading this message, I do not support the hijacking of the Santa Ana Citizens group by la loca viejita and the few.
The SACits list is privately owned and not affiliated with the city of Santa Ana.
What the heck are students doing reading private opinion sites in Santa Ana classrooms anyway?
SAUSD can’t even teach Johnny (Juanito?) to read, do math, or speak English properly, (many SAUSD schools in NCLB PI mode and a large number of students unable to pass the simple CASHEE test) but they have time in class to let these kids roam the internet?
Bloggers like Luis Rodriguez (now here on Orange Juice) are almost singlehandedly responsible for causing some of the hateful postings. His pro illegal immigration rants dominated the site, and he regularly twisted normal topics into rase based issues. Is it any wonder there were complaints?
Hopefully, this site will not be damaged the same way.
