Carona is rolling in cash…and problems too
O.C. Sheriff Mike Carona’s campaign staff is no doubt quite ecstatic – apparently his fundraiser on Thursday, at which Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is supposed to be appearing, will apparently put Carona over the $1 million mark. None of his competitors are anywhere close to that. Two have raised over $100,000 and one has lent himself that much.
The good news for Carona’s many detractors is that both the Times and the Register mentioned in today’s edition that protesters will be showing up in droves on Thursday at the event, which is scheduled to take place at the St. Regis Hotel in Dana Point.
I have a feeling that there might be other protesters there too. There are many conservatives upset at Schwarzenegger for choosing a pro-abortion Democrat and former Gray Davis staffer, Susan Kennedy, as his Chief of Staff. Don’t be surprised if CRA or YAF protesters are there. There might also be radical Latino protesters there, as they are still angry at Carona over his new policy of training his officers to identify felons who are illegal immigrants.
If enough varied protesters show up, the media will be sure to cover them – and hopefully they will assume that everyone is there to protest Carona for his legal problems and his mistreatment of women. Regardless, the resulting negative publicity will be a boon to Carona’s opponents. It may damage Schwarzenegger as well.
I have been trying to find the anti-Carona website that Jean Pasco referenced in her article in today’s Times. If any of my readers know the URL, please pass it on. You can read her article at http://www.latimes.com/news/local/orange/la-me-arnold1feb01,0,5062537.story?coll=la-editions-orange.

It will be very interesting to see the final talley for the event.
My understanding is that Team Carona is having problems selling tickets and they only have a small number of pledges at this time.
Seeing how Carona has only been able to raise $27,000 over the last 6 months and, he has paid himself a good portion of that in unaccounted for expenses, he better hope those pledges come through. Regardless, I will be surprised if it amounts to much.
That being said, I want to echo the call from the blogger on
http://www.caronachronicles.com
who said ALL ETHICAL PEOPLE should come to the corner of PCH and Niguel Road to protest both the Governor and the Sheriff from 4 to 6 PM, tomorrow, Thursday Feb. 2nd.
Regardless of Party affiliation, it’s wrong to endorse anyone sexual harrasment lawsuits against them, until those matters are resolved.
Shame on the Governor for fostering the perception that it’s okay for a man to use his elected position of public trust to prey upon women.
Timmy –
Rumors have plagued the governor for years about his sexual harrasment escapades and womanizing nights. That didn’t stop the GOP from endorsing him for governor.
You knew what you were getting when you elected him – a womanizer with a bad hair dye job.
BTW … the governor just used
his elected position of public trust by dodging a ticket for his recent motorcycle incident. Hmmm
I don’t hear you or Arty singing
the ethical dodge two-step.
Good luck with tomorrow’s rally and
thanks for the caronachronicles address.

I have never endorsed the Governor’s behavior. The only reason I believe he got away with the accusations during the recall was because of the “anti-Davis let’s clean house” fever. As in most things in life, timing is everything, even in politics.
I do believe that the Governor is making a huge mistake in coming down for a man who has done nothing but back stab his efforts and embarrass the GOP with scandal after scandal.
I do not think the event will raise nearly as much money as the Carona spin team wants us to believe. It is nothing buy hype in hopes of encouraging others to bail Carona out. We’ll just have to wait and see if I’m right.
I have made my position perfectly clear to the Governor’s office: Any elected official, Democrat or Republican, who endorses Mike Carona for reelection, will not receive my support either for reelection or on their next project.
If enough people out there take the same stance with their elected
officials, incumbents will have no choice but to listen to voters or face being chased out of office.
That’s the way it should. Let’s clean up politics!
