Carona losing supporters over immigration policy

Apparently Mario Rodriguez was not the only prominent Orange County Latino activist to jump off of Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona’s bandwagon after he announced his new policy regarding processing of criminals who are illegal immigrants. Martin Wisckol reports in today’s O.C. Register (http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/news/local/article_916079.php) that Rodriguez is fielding calls from other Latino activists who are upset with Carona over his new policy. And yet Wisckol points out that Allan Mansoor, the Mayor of Costa Mesa who has promoted a plan similar to Carona’s for his city, is a supporter of Bill Hunt, along with Rodriguez. Hunt is the most significant of the announced Carona opponents. Hunt’s reponse to all the immigration brouhaha? He too is putting together a plan, however he is wisely seeking the advice of both Rodriguez and Mansoor. That sounds about right. Maybe another Carona backfire? Too early to tell. It will be interesting to see what Hunt comes up with.
