GOP Registration up in Orange County
Tom Fuentes, the Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County sent out a press release today touting the fact that Republican registration in Orange County is now at 668,767, which outnumbers the Democrats by nearly a quarter million. That is great news, however nowhere in his release does Fuentes mention what might be the biggest reason for the jump in registrations – the recall of Gray Davis and ensuing election of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. That is quite an omission.
Here is the press release in its entirety:
COSTA MESA, CALIF.—The Republican Party of Orange County announced today that Republican registrations in Orange County outnumber the Democrat’s registrations by nearly a quarter million.
“We are very excited to be approaching such a significant number,” said Lois Godfrey, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County’s Precinct Advisory Committee. “It is not only the greatest margin in California, but it is greater then the margins of other Republican dominated counties, San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino, combined.”
As of January 23, 2004, Republican registration in Orange County stood at 668,767. Dwarfing registered Democrats by 245,489 voters. Godfrey attributes the success in Orange County to a grassroots volunteer voter registration program, supplemented by the California Republican Party’s paid registration drive.
“Most importantly” Godfrey added, “Our numbers illustrate how well the Republican Party represents the values and beliefs of Orange County residents.”
