Gather round, people! Shut up and sit down. It’s December 23. That means it’s Festivus. It’s time for us to gather around an all-day Festivus Dinner for “Airing of Grievances” and “Feats of Strength,” and for us to celebrate Festivus Miracles like that we are celebrating Festivus online this year.
You got grievances? Fine. Air them in comments. They could be about the OJB crowd, the “competition” (such as it is) in the rest of the blogosphere, or other public figures inside or outside of OC. We will engage in our grievances as well, but like Han Solo we will not shoot at any of you first. (Except possibly the Winships, because they can take it.)
The good ones — mostly meaning the funny ones — will be transported into the story itself. The rest will be left languishing to embarrass you. But you can have even your unfunny comments elevated by challenging and defeating either Vern or Greg in an online “Feat of Strength” of their choosing. Got it?
AND this is your long holiday weekend thread, so talk about other stuff too if that suits your fancy – decency, decorum, discretion, etc etc etc…

OK I got a grievance. I got a grievance RIGHT HERE (one must imagine the hand gesture.)
Why do we continue to devote screen time to goofs like Cunningham and Chumley? Doing so offers some hint that their words are of importance, that their whining little rants have merit worthy of the little spare time the world allots to us mere mortals. IT IS TIME TO IGNORE THEM! Especially Cunningham, because if not for our posting in response to their ignorant, fictionalized versions of the reality Anaheim residents are stuck living with, they would have NO TRAFFIC and the misguided clients paying Matt to act as their agent (which itself is likely to have its own consequences) will recognize how ineffective their online troll is, and stop paying him.
NOTE: This is where the inhabitant of Suite C whines that Lady Ward is attacking his ability to provide for his family, to which I say Damn Straight, when you feed your family by messing with the environment where MY family hoped to spend the rest of out days, I am going to attack with everything in me.
But my New Year’s Resolution is to focus on what is truthful and good and accurate, and no longer spend my time trying to debunk bogus info. I used to worry about others unknowingly tripping over his shit on the internet and possibly believing it, if no contrasting information was offered, but at this point I think the content of that fever swamp offers it own indictment of credibility, and anyone willing to swallow whole the manure being shoveled over there deserves the bad taste it leaves.
So the Grievance of Lady Ward the Cynth-Monster says the mouthpieces of the Kleptocracy are not worthy of our time or attentions. (Having not played this game before, I may have used an incorrect format. And I do not have dice with more than the usual number of sides if this is required, but I do know where to get them if needed.)
I’ve asked Vern for a partial solution to this problem for Christmas.
Well, banning me stopped my reading! 😉
Amen Cynthia. I have been ignoring Cunningham for years now and it’s the best thing ever. Just pretend he doesn’t exist.
I’ll tell you what’s irresistible about taking on Cunningham and Chmielewski. You say to yourself, “Really, this is all the other side has to offer (besides money and power?) I can easily show how stupid, venal and wrong what they just said is – and be funny while doing it.”
THAT is impossible to resist, for some of us (mostly) guys.
Guilty as charged.
A quick trip to the Kleptoblog reveals his annual tribute to the Baby Jesus.
I wonder how Baby Jesus would feel about all the anonymous attacks and slanders on Tom Tait – a really decent human being – that Wordsmith permits by Pringle employees and camp followers on his blog.
Just visited Anaheim Blog, Cynthia. Tell Vern to give me my present.
What am I missing?
Umm… was that idea supposed to be a secret, or surprise, Juice Brother?
There is actually no constitutional right to vote; there are voting laws, but since you referenced “voting rights” you should know there’s no constitutional provision for it.
Another custom cut gem!
I don’t get it; is that from Cunningham?
You gotta start using quote marks at least, Zenger; that doesn’t sound like something you’d say.
It’s from Chumley — or from what used to be Chumley before the worms ate his brain.
I couldn’t find it at Chumley’s.
Cuz it’s technically-true BS that I’ve heard some rightwingers use to justify laws that make it harder to vote… but I’ve never heard a supposed liberal say it.
Chumley said it, but he said it on the Cunningblog. If you want to search for it, it’s a story that contains the phrase “cried poor mouth”.
so it’s OK that she lied a little? Jordan isn’t running for State Senate…let’s try to keep our elections straight because I’m not falling for that, “oh shiny…look over there” tactic
Merry Christmas everyone. Peace on Earth. Goodwill towards men. All that stuff
???
I know Dan’ll text me if that wasn’t really him. It does seem to lack any satirical or other value.
Merry Christmas Dan. You and Jordan should both go on some kind of spiritual journey and think long and hard about what it really means to be a liberal and a Democrat, and don’t come back till you get it right.
Grievance: Poseidon developer getting named to the OC Register 100 Most Influential.
That said, I guess one would have to be pretty darn Influential to get a whole county to pay 300% of its current water costs for the exact same product.
Well, that’s wrong. Most influential in the Poseidon case belongs to Benjamin Franklin and U.S. Grant.
Grievance: OJB, let’s hear more about Costa Mesa. The Sober Living Capital of OC and every developer’s b!tch. Where the council ignores the residents, Brown Act violations are the norm, and civil liberties are being eroded regularly by a 3-2 majority vote. Our Mayor has been living in another city while his house is being rebuilt from the ground up. Where a federally protected park is slowly being developed against the law (view google earth for the 16′ wide ROAD is being installed as an access “trail”).
It is an act of strength just to sit through the council meetings that regularly run past midnight – when most important items are heard – just to tire out the citizens.
Greg “gericault” Ridge keeps saying he’s gonna write more Goat Hill for us. Then there’s Anna Vrska too, the great budget watchdog down there, we published a piece from her last year. I wish we could pay these people.
Thank God there’s The Pot Stirrer.
The main reason that I don’t write more about any OC city (or County government or special district) is simply lack of time. But at least with Costa Mesa I can justify not covering it because Geoff West at The Bubbling Cauldron is just SO good at it.
Grievances ? Well, another YouTube “suggestion” appears – Inspiration ? Entertainment ? Noise ? FWIW. Cheers!-
Speaking of the Register’s 100 Most Influential, and Poseidon getting on it… it’s hard for me to get up the energy to go look at who the Register thinks is most influential, especially when there’s A HUNDRED OF THEM, but it’s come to my attention today that AT LEAST TWO ORANGE JUICE HEROES ARE ON THAT LIST, and mega-Kudos to them:
1) The Oak View School District’s Gina Clayton-Tarvin, whom we wrote about here:
http://www.orangejuiceblog.com/2015/10/oak-view-comunidad-tells-rainbow-put-a-lid-on-it-plus-epting-gina-cagematch/ ;
whom Chris Epting has declared war on (unless he’s given up but that wouldn’t be like him);
Who has recently, and unprecedentedly, been re-elected to a second term as president by her board;
and whom the Register praises here: http://epaper.ocregister.com/Olive/ODE/OCWHBWaveNorth/
AND ALSO
2) Tom Perrin, the victorious leader of SJC’s El Nido Mobile Home Park peeps who faced down predatory lawyer Robert Coldren and kept their rent control homes. We wrote about Tom and his great organizing here:

And the Register here:

Congratulations Gina and Tom – you deserved it!
Thanks for the nice complement Vern! I’m honored that you have written about our advocacy concerning the multi-decade plight of people in the beleaguered Oak View neighborhood of Huntington Beach.
Justice has prevailed in the first of its cases against Rainbow Environmental, the Wintersburg case, the Ocean View School District won on June 2, 2015 in CA Superior court to undo the Commercial/Industrial zoning on the historical Japanese site. The six historical structures can’t be bulldozed and Rainbow’s garbage operations will not be moved even closer to our preschoolers.
Next up, after a decisive win at the AQMD hearing in November that forced the trash hauling giant owned by Republic Services to enclose most of its pollution causing operations; we will seek legal remedies for the other pollution issues that AQMD has no jurisdiction over. Finally an impartial judge and jury will get to hear about the environmental injustice the people of Oak View have silently suffered for years.
Be on the lookout in 2016 for more progressive things to occur in the OVSD, I truly believe we are a place to watch. Here is a link to the aforementioned OC Register article that can be accessed via mobile device. http://m.ocregister.com/articles/tarvin-697576-clayton-district.html

HEY THERE, Water Savers! Did you apply for a “Turf Removal Rebate” yet ? Well how about THIS little “surprise” from the IRS ?? CORPORATE recipients can probably structure their affairs to avoid this (?) but homeowners have to hope for a (retroactive ?) LAW CHANGE ??? Figures. Perhaps letters of support to Reps. Huffman and Sherman (as well as yours ?) would be a good idea?
