I did. Latinos come in at 7.4%, under “Any Illicit Drug Use.” Whites come in at 8.1%.
Looking at the high rate of drug use among Amerind people in light of this whole debate is interesting. Intergenerational historical trauma is definitely at play. Tragic indeed.

Yet, we still voted to keep marijuana prohibition in tact by voting no on Prop 19. (I favor legalizing all drugs) Keep in mind, these figures are from 2003. If drug use among whites is higher, then why are the incarceration rates higher among minorities when it comes to non violent drug offenses? Most likely, the public defender of most cities and municipalities will often cut plea deals with the DA and convince their clients that taking the plea deal is the best way to go. They often resort to this tactic knowing full well that someone from an economically disadvantaged background will not have the financial resources to hire a decent defense attorney. So they take the plea deal and end up with a felony conviction on their permanent record.
