We OJB writers may seem hostile to Disney at times, but we’re really not. Hostile to the streetcar, to SOAR’s shenanigans, to certain aspects of copyright law (“FREE MICKEY!”), yes — but we like Disneyland and the rest of the resort and even Disney Corporation itself in most respects. So let’s start things off with a tribute to Disney, shall we?
Yes — it’s Disney Characters as Real People! If you can’t see the “who’s who” legend, you can go to the source and read that photo caption at a larger font size. Give them their hits! From the story:
Using computer-generated blends of real people, graphic designer Karen Graw tweaked and altered each face until she found the perfect match for each legend of the Disney universe.
She posted the images to her profile on the art-sharing website Behance – and they have now been rediscovered, much to the delight of people on social media around the world.
The artist told The Independent: “I wanted to see what the ID photos of Disney characters would look like, and how they could possibly look in real life.
…
Not everyone was so impressed, with user Diego Gomez writing: “ They all look strangely similar” and Jessica Crossley saying: “So… clones?” It is unclear whether these were criticisms of the artwork, or the diversity of Disney characters themselves.
Wait, wait — we said no criticism of Disney here in today’s post, Mr. Gomez and Ms. Crossley! And if they are clones (of, I’m guessing, at least partly Olivia Wilde), and if it gives George Lucas a good idea for one of the last movies in the Star Wars trilogy — then so much the better!
This is your Weekend Open Thread. Talk about that, or anything else you’d like, within reasonable bounds of decency and decorum. No Dearthwatch was scheduled for this week, but given yesterday’s splatterfest at the Register doing one may be hard to resist. If so, it will appear below the photo, below, of what Jiminy Cricket would look like in real life — nude!
bring back the “Hot Springs” up the Ortega hiway.
I hate Tinkerbell – she is a vindictive, jealous, hateful, persnickety bitch – I didn’t clap.
Given the dramatic news of the week, I hereby christen this the “Weakened Open Thread”.
I know that the WOT is serving its purpose when people tell me that I’m doing it wrong.
Generally, if an existing story is serving the purpose of covering real news, I don’t make it the subject of the WOT.
I don’t think anon was criticizing you, just making a mordant pun.
Uhh, yeah, what Vern said.
Hokay. I still don’t get it, but I don’t get lots of things.
Not a big deal. It was a fine weekend open thread. But then the news of the KT verdict hit and nobody paid attention to the open thread, thereby “weakening” it. Hence very few comments here.
Until THIS contretemps.
