DPOC votes not to endorse Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido

Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido failed to get the endorsement of the Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) at their Central Committee meeting tonight. Neither did his Democratic opponent, Councilwoman Michele Martinez – but this is a victory for her. Pulido has always gotten this endorsement in the past.

Pulido has been slammed for his support of Prop. 187; for backing Republican Rosie Avila for the SAUSD School Board many times; and for putting a Minuteman, Lupe Moreno, on the Santa Ana Library Board, but none of that came up last night.

The City of Santa Ana is $28 million in debt. We have had 18 murders so far this year. Carjackings have become a commonplace event in our city. And Pulido voted to raise our water rates twice in the past year – we now pay more for our water than residents of Anaheim and Orange do – and they don’t have our water table.

So what exactly could Pulido say that would have gotten him the DPOC’s endorsement? He didn’t even back the winning Democratic presidential nominee – he was a Hillary guy.

Congratulations to Martinez, who was in Denver at the Democratic National Convention, on denying Pulido the DPOC’s endorsement. This is quite a blow to Pulido – especially in a town that has well over 45,000 Democratic voters.
