WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47), the most senior female member of both the House Armed Services Committee and House Homeland Security Committee, today issued the following statement regarding President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“Tonight, President Obama spoke directly to the American people about his plan to win the future by out-innovating, out-educating, and out-building the rest of the world. By emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurship, education, and infrastructure, the president demonstrated a solid understanding of what it will take to restore America’s prosperity in the long-term.
“I was particularly pleased that President Obama’s strategy included smart investments in education and high-speed rail: two sectors with the potential to spur economic growth in California. Education, in particular, is the foundation of opportunity and the basis of our country’s future success. By giving every American of every age the opportunity to succeed in school, I believe we will be better-positioned to compete in a 21st century economy.
“As a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Caucus, I was also pleased to hear the president emphasize the need to restore fiscal responsibility in government. It’s time to take a commonsense approach to our budget, investing only in what makes America stronger and cutting what doesn’t. But I also want to balance our interest in bringing down the deficit with our interest in maintaining crucial social service programs, particularly in Orange County. While I am supportive of the president’s proposed freeze on annual domestic spending, we have to take extreme care to ensure our actions are as targeted as possible.
“Finally, I want to commend the president for remembering to address the important issue of immigration reform. There are millions of undocumented immigrants now living in communities across the country. The time to find a compassionate, humane way to bring these men, women, and children out of the shadows is now. I applaud the president’s call to action on this difficult issue, and hope he will continue to push for meaningful reform in the months ahead.”
I tweeted that she’d find a way to get on-camera time tonite…and just a few minutes later, she made a prophet out of me!
You are no prophet, she is just a scumbag and scumbags love the lime light!
Aw bullshit. Howabout if our senior Armed Services Homeland Security blah blah came out against dropping bombs on people for no apparent reason?
Neoconservatism run amok.
“Our Loretta” … you can’t get much more sappy than that.
yeah, you can…you can call her “queen bee!”
“Our Loretta” ? Your crush is showing Vern.
No, no… it’s just she’s pretty much Orange County’s only half-decent, half-sane Congressperson. I guess I started doing that last week when she introduced a good civil liberties bill and Glennzilla interviewed her, it made me proud…

Did she apologize for trying to remove Gabrielle Giffords from her seat on the House Armed Services Committee? Don’t worry, that was rhetorical.
Real classy move “your” Loretta made –
California Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez has proposed removing Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords from the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) until she recovers from injuries sustained after being shot in the head.
The proposal sparked an outrage, according to those in the room — including from those in Sanchez’s own party.
“It’s not appropriate,” Texas Democratic Rep. Silvestre Reyes told The Daily Caller, adding that there was outrage among some members in the room when Sanchez made the suggestion. “It’s bad for morale during her recovery period.”
I can see both sides of the argument. So probably can Gabby.
I think this one got SPUN, she was asking if there should be someone to stand in for her so Giffords didn’t lose those appointments. Try doing some research. I think it was blow out of proportion. Why would Loretta throw a fellow Blue Dog under the bus, and a fellow FEMALE for that matter

Ms. Sanchez’s spokesman noted that the proposal was simply a inquiry.
“Rep. Sanchez simply inquired whether a proxy could represent the Congresswoman on the Committee at Rep. Giffords’ request. That way, Gabby’s legislative priorities and seniority would be preserved until her return. Any other interpretation of her question is ludicrous,” Ms. Sanchez’s spokesperson said.
Yeah, the story is an overblown Sanchez hit from a Fox News site. Only our extreme righties had even heard of it. (Newbie, Junior)
