What a week we had at the Orange Juice! If we had a theme this week, it was the controversial Santa Ana Artists Village. Our top story was Sean Mill’s “The Hypocrisy of the Cribb Crowd,” with 391 page views and 44 comments.
The artists village theme continued with Gallegos’ “Voice of Reason: Artists Village vs. Calle Cuatro,” which had 155 page views and 21 comments.
Our new “Who is” series also touched on the Artists Village story as it featured the creator of that project. “Who is Don Cribb?” had 152 page views and 13 comments. Up next, sometime this week, will be “Who is Mike Metzler?”
Last week’s “Who is Al Amezcua?” continued strong this week, with 509 page views, through yesterday, and 42 comments. The follow-up to that story, “Could this be the end of the Orange Juice?” had 29 comments and 328 page views.
If there was a second theme to this week’s coverage, it was academic free speech. We covered the saga of UCI’s hiring, firing and rehiring of noted Constitutional expert Erwin Chemerinsky, with “UC Irvine Dean Chemerinsky,” “Chemerinsky Rehired,”and “Coarsening of America”Chemerinskygate.” And Thomas Gordon pitched in with a different take on the issue of academic free speech, with “Who will defend Rumsfeld?“
We also covered the Fiestas Patrias festival in downtown Santa Ana, with “Politicians show up to Santa Ana Fiestas Patrias” and Gallegos’ “My take on the parade.”
We had some good news this week, when we found out that the Orange Juice was selected as OC Weekly’s “Best Local Blog.” But we also had bad news, as we found out that Claudio Gallegos will be leaving the Orange Juice in late October. Say it ain’t so! “All Good Things Must Come to an End” had 169 page views and 12 comments.
Larry Gilbert also celebrated his first year with us as looked back at the “Orange Juice Year in Review.” And Gilbert sparked 18 comments with his review of a speech Dennis Prager gave here in Orange County this week.
We also put out a call for new bloggers, then found one from the left and one from the right. Welcome to Aria Ghafari and Chris Emami! I look forward to adding your new posts to our Week in Review series…

Who cares!
Poster 1,
Last week’s “Week in Review” was very well received. This is a good way to revisit the week’s hottest stories. Some of our readers don’t visit us daily, so this column gives them a chance to check out what they missed.
Watch how quickly the other blogs in town will start to mimic this column…
Fine but who cares about the number of page views and comments?
