Have you ever been to the San Diego Wild Animal Park? You get to ride a tram through their park and see the wild animals up close. Now a non-profit organization in Los Angeles is proposing to conduct bus tours of gang-stricken areas in Los Angeles.
“A group of civic activists, united by faith and a belief that the poor economy in the interior of Los Angeles is a social injustice, is preparing to offer bus tours of some of the grittiest pockets of the city, including decayed public housing, sites of deadly shootouts and streets ravaged by racial unrest,” according to the L.A. Times.
“Alfred Lomas is the man behind LA Gang Tours. Lomas, a former gang member, says that the whole idea behind to his non-profit group is to create jobs and open the lines of communication between rival gangs,” according to KABC7.
Lomas heads up the Dream Center. It appears to be a quasi-religious organization. There is no information about the bus tours on their website. However the L.A. Times does provide additional info about the gang bus tours:
The nonprofit group plans to offer two-hour tours at an initial cost of $65 per adult, with profits funneled back into the community through jobs, “franchised” tours in new areas and micro-loans to inner-city entrepreneurs. Early routes will focus largely on South L.A., with forays through Watts and Florence-Firestone.
Not sure about this one. Maybe they need to armor plate the buses? I cannot imagine how they will insure these tours. But I hope the concept does some good for L.A. I just don’t think I would ever get near any of these gang tour buses. It doesn’t sound like a great way to spend the afternoon…
Well…the idea behind it from what I understand is to show the reality of life in the hardest sections of the inner city. I think it would be worth taking the tour to learn more about the politics of discrimination. I think the controversy for me lies in how they approach the tour and whether it makes a display/mockery of the people or if it approaches the situation with sensitivity and respect.
I don’t see the point to it.
The point is the left wing idea that gangs are caused by social injustice. When infact gangs are caused by social decay of the family unit. Kids get into gangs because of neglect and the need for a sudo-family!

Respect for what?? killer’s in the making? This ridiculous tour will cater to a bunch of left wing elitists looking at people like they are sub-human- is the highest form of disrecpect. These so called underserved and vulnerable people are no less capable then you of I of getting out of a bad situation. The difference is a choice to stay or go!
dumps in los Angles as well as in Santa Ana are caused by the poor choices and cultural and social values of the residents. Social decay brings about crime, poverty, and neglected kids, who become the product of their environment, thus the cycle of social problems continues from generation to generation.
Unless the cities break the cycle by making parents accountable for their kids and the school districts make education a priority in the lives of both the parents and their children the cycle will continue.
I think they should offer these in Santa Ana. Kind of like the police ride alongs but with Gang Bangers. I bet lots of tourists would pay $65 to spend the day with a Loper or a member of F-Troop. Walk a mile in their shoes to see what it is like. Where do I sign up?
I think it would be a better idea to take the gang bangers to TJ and make them spend a day with a mexican family living in a hut. I think the Santa Ana gang banger’s might just take a second look at thier lives and thank god that they have a choice to live instead of just living to exist!
put the illegals on the bus

So make up your mind, pea brain = now you are blaming social decay for crime, poverty, and neglected kids-
isn’t this “Social Injustice”?
Michelle, you are no aristocrat===you sound like trailer trash. All the negativity and hate you spread will go back to you tenfold and grow exponentially- and yes you are creating awful karma for you and your future generations. I only hope that one day you will realize how stupid you are.

In the historian Carroll Quigley’s fabulous book, The Evolution of Civilizations, Dr. Quigley looks at the factors behind the rise and fall of civilizations. Through his research, he identified seven stages (of historical change) that all civilizations experience. They are as follows:
Mixture
Gestation
Expansion
Conflict
Universal empire
Decay
Invasion
In this book, Dr. Quigley defines a civilization as “a producing society with an instrument of expansion.” However, according to Carroll Quigley, when a society’s instrument of expansion is transformed into an institution that serves its own needs (regardless of the negative impact on society itself), it is inevitable the civilization will decay.
Sorry discuss!
Sigh…no comment (but it does cause you to “high five” entrepreneurship at perhaps, its most creative moment)
