Prominent Latinos file as Democratic Assembly District Delegates in the 69th A.D.

California Democrats will be conducting their state Election Meetings on January 10-11.  Locally a number of prominent Latinos are running in the 69th District. You may vote in our poll below for your favorites. You may vote for up to 12 candidates in our poll.

If you intend to vote in the Election Meeting, be sure to register in advance, at this link.  You will be able to vote for six men and six women.  Click here to see where you can vote. In the 69th A.D. the Election Meeting will be held at the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board Room, at 2323 N. Broadway, in Santa Ana.  Registration starts at 10:00 a.m., and the meeting begins at 12:00 noon.

I am told that the subtext to this Election Meeting will be the race between John Burton, who served for many years in the State Senate, and Alex Rooker, for State Chair.  I believe that all of the delegate candidates in the 69th have endorsed Burton, except for Irene Ibarra. UPDATE: Ibarra has endorsed Burton too – I saw her on his Facebook.  He looks like a shoo-in for State Chair of the California Democrats.

If I could vote in this Election Meeting, I would vote for:

  • Irene Ibarra (ran for the SAUSD School Board this year)
  • Gloria Alvarado (ran for the SAUSD School Board this year)
  • Valerie Amezcua (ran for the SAUSD School Board this year)
  • Michele Martinez (ran for Mayor of Santa Ana, serves on the Santa Ana City Council)
  • Martha Lopez (Field Representative for State Senator Lou Correa)
  • Mario Guerrero (worked on Michele Martinez’ mayoral campaign this year)
  • Carl Weibel (activist against Prop. Eight)

I don’t know the rest of the candidates.  Perhaps our readers can fill in the blanks?  Click here to read their candidate’s statements.
