“The ongoing state budget crisis could eventually force Santa Ana Unified School District into another $46 million in school cuts, district officials said Tuesday,” according to the O.C. Register.
“Trustees and district staff will hold a special meeting Thursday for the public on the impacts of the state budget crisis on the district. The meeting begins at 7:30 a.m. at district headquarters, 1601 E. Chestnut Ave.”
Why is there NO mention of this meeting anywhere on the SAUSD’s website? It is not on the district’s calendar and it is not mentioned on the “District News” section. Nor is ANY information available on this website in Spanish. What gives? Be sure to call the SAUSD Public Information Officer, Angela Burrell, and ask her these questions. Her number is 714-558-5555 or you may email her here.
Does anyone have any confidence that our lame SAUSD School Board will be able to deal with this budget shortfall? I truly doubt that new school board member Roman Reyna will have even half a clue what to do about this budget crisis…and we know what to expect from reelected School Board members Jose Hernandez and Rob Richardson.
One has to wonder whythe budget crisis meeting is scheduled in the morning, when most people are working, on the way to work, or taking their kids to school? If you can make it, be sure to show up and give our School Board a piece of your mind! And ask them what ever happened to the El Toro settlement money…
Maybe Rob Richardson should spend more time working on the school district problems and less time worrying about who serves on the City of Santa Ana Planning Commission.
Art! You should attend more Board meetings!
Just last month Juan Lopez was appointed to Associate Superintendant, with a pay raise equivalent to a full time 8 hour Special Education Instructional Assistant. SAUSD Management continues to spend as if there is NO Tomorrow. Construction has again started at the District Office (After the Elections) not the school sites.
Yet the educated idiots in Management and on the Board want to CUT the services (Certificated and Classified Staff) to the taxpayers, parents, students and staff. You have to ask why meetings in the morning?
The answer is simple NO BODY WILL COME! SAUSD Budget Crisis my A_____!
SAUSD’s superintendent, the cabinet and the BoE are equally inept and worthless.
Meetings in the morning are engineered to meet the needs of the staff and not the parents or community.
Richardson’s political plotting is irksome.

Keep the pressure on these people of the dark. Encourage the citizens of Santa Ana to do so with you. I and some others are trying to prepare your children for entry into this country’s top universities, and we can’t do it without you.
Well, UC is in danger to be relegated to a regional university. World-class universities require the appropriate funding to attract and keep world-class faculty.
Prop 13 and other propositions, as well as the state budget crunch, have severely limited the ability of UC to attract and keep world-class faculty.
See, e.g., http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/10/26/EDCFT08MB.DTL
There also is a White Paper from the Regents from a couple years back. I have it in a stack somewhere, but I don’t know if it is available online. It was kind of kept under wraps. This paper talks about the fact that UC is well on its way to become just another mediocre regional university.
So, the UC Lux may end up shining only half-bright…
My pajaritos tell me that Richardson and Noji both know very well where the monies went from the El Toro settlement..and I’m sure they’re sweating if the public finds out how the money has been squandered away…..

Richardson & Noji should be the perfect poster for TERM LIMITS. These two have been on the board for over 30 years! And both DO NOT have any children attending SAUSD schools. In fact, Noji refused to send her son to any SAUSD high school and sent him to Irvine schools.
Art,
The OC Register puts the meeting at 7:30 A.M. – morning! John Palacios, who of course has to be there, sent an e-message out to all on his educators e-list (I’m on it) that the meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. Evening!
Wassup? Error or intentional obfuscation?
SAHS Teacher,
I just spoke to Palacio this morning to clarify the situation. And I have a new story up at this link: http://orangejuiceblog.com/2008/12/another-sausd-budget-crisis-meeting-set-for-tonight/. Apparently the district scheduled ANOTHER meeting for tonight. The meeting this morning was unofficial and meant as some sort of community meeting, even though it was set at a time that was inconvenient to the community.
