“and 2. want to fight the perpetual corruption in the OC itself . . .”
Does not align with your pick of Joe Kerr, who doesn’t live in District Four.
Makes me seriously question the integrity of your other picks.
He seems to meet the legal standards of living in District 4. Pity that that Tony B. didn’t put his money into a legal case challenging his residency — something that goes beyond being a “carpetbagger,” which just means moving to a new place so that one can run their legally, which may be a political offense rather than a legal one — rather than dumping money into a bunch of tired-themed signs.
Seriously: which didn’t Tony — or even YOU — challenge him if you think that he doesn’t live in the district? There’s good reason to believe that Galloway didn’t live in the district (though not as good of a reason as to believe that Mimi Walters didn’t live in hers when SHE ran for State Senate) — why do you guys always bluster rather than do something about it (the Kelly Thomas recall being an honorable exception.) It’s weird.
Why didn’t I spend my money challenging his residency?
Because I expect DPOC to have a spine.
Oops.
So far as we know, he lives where he says he lives, within District 4.
So basically, what you call “having a spine” means “latching onto whatever theory — bullshit though it may be — without question.
If you wanted to get a court to agree with your take on things — which I presume you argue was already true at the time that challenges were allowed — you should have brought a suit. Snark about DPOC may be emotionally satisfying, but it’s ineffectual.
No, I mean having the guts to put up one of your own and not a bought and paid for puppet from 35 miles down river.
But if you and Vern want to carry water for those on your side of the fence that fleece the system for their own gain, great.
Just don’t call yourself a rebel and don’t claim to stamp out corruption. Endorsements like this one enable both.
I’m not going to fight within the team, but this is a horrible call.
I honestly don’t know what you mean by “corruption” here. Voting for a longtime resident of Brea who moved back down here to run for the Supervisor from the place he’s lived for most of his life and now lives again? You’ve said that you find this distasteful — fathers shouldn’t live 40 miles away from their kids, etc. — and that’s your right to believe. But I don’t think that even you think that it is in any sense “corrupt.” We have LOTS of corruption in OC, and we’ve taken it on here. But you’ve written nothing to suggest that this is really an example of it.
Maybe because the Good As No DA DA won’t pursue it. Bushala did file a complaint against Sidhu in 2010 that was brushed aside by Racetrack who wouldn’t do anything about it.
Carpetbagging, like many other unethical political activities isn’t illegal. But nobody believes Kerr has abandoned his Coto de Caza mini-mansion. And that’s perjury and voter fraud.
A union goon who stars off a campaign by foisting himself on a public that he has had nothing to do with: arrogant, deceptive and self-serving. Good to see the unionistas are just as shameful as Repuglicans like Ackerwoman and Mimi Walters.
The alternative view is that Kerr is law-abiding, and therefore knows that if he has to move to the 4th district to run there, HE WILL ACTUALLY DO IT!
“Nobody believes” that he’s done it? Actually, I do. It doesn’t mean that he’s never going to set foot in Coto; of course he will. It means that if the law says that you can move, so long as you actually do move with an intent to stay there indefinitely, you can do so. So that’s not perjury — and you’re too deluded for what you’re saying to be libel.
As for the complaint against Sidhu — no one in Tony’s brain trust ever considered complaining to the FCC? All you did was to give it to Racky? Were you guys TRYING to fail?
That was quite the backflip.
Don’t hurt yourself with all those acrobatics.
And again — the entire premise that moving to a new district to run there is “unethical” is absurd. If there are too many good candidates in District A and none in District B, then there’s nothing “unethical” in deciding to move to a district where the legislature or board can benefit from having TWO good members rather than one. It’s a political detriment, sure — and people will criticize that candidate as being “unable” to serve the people of that district, which is generally bullshit. But that’s a political problem — and the solution, if you’re the sort of “surf nazi” type who claims that long-term residence equals entitlement, is to NOT VOTE for that candidate. I’m doing that right now with Dr. Tran. But do I consider her “unethical” for having moved here. Of course not. She could figure out what the needs of the district are and represent our specific needs — beyond the general needs of the state — adequately. “Ethics” involves things like deceiving voters about one’s opponent — also not illegal — not like trying to give a district better representation if no better candidate in that district comes forward to run.
Kerr is one of the union leaders furthest from the stereotype of “union goon” — and your tossing out that charge without knowing jack about the guy, such that he has had A LOT to do with this district — is an example of being unethical. The problem with Walters’s run from State Senate was that SHE NEVER INHABITED the apartment she bought in Irvine to claim residency — which Steve Young masterfully proved by leaving a welcoming bouquet of flowers on his opponent’s doorstep, then coming by daily to watch them wilt into mulch — which is what made THAT perjury and fraud.
You should have left flowers on Kerr’s doorstep — or had the place staked out to see if he actually came and went from there — if you wanted to accuse him of perjury and fraud. But your way — loose and baseless assertions of criminal actions — is a lot quicker and easier. It’s just unethical.
Unfortunately, there’s almost no chance that you’ll understand that distinction — and even less of a chance that you’ll admit it if you do.
Looks pretty good to me, though I’m comfy with Correa in the 46th.
I purposely kept this off the front rotations and so on, I just wanted it to be an ad I could put out on Facebook … don’t know how you guys all saw it!
Unfortunately, Facebook has chosen TODAY to change their policies for allowing ads “with political content.” I have to jump through seventeen hoops to show I’m a true American person. And now I gotta wait for a letter in the snail mail. So no more political ads for a while.
All I know is that whatever Vern says must be right, that’s right Vern
Eugene, are you still gonna be able to draw political caricatures for us, up in Perris?
