Will Newport Mesa USD area 5 choose the serious Kirstin Walsh (left) or the daffy Republican favorite Andrea McElroy (right)?
Will Surf City voters choose to keep their library free from politicians and censors?
Will GOP head Will O’Neill lose once tonight? Or twice? Or not at all?
We are on tenterhooks.
First results come out at 8, check back then!

A mixed bag there… of course we’d like to see the MAGA Republicans lose everything, but if Andrea beats Kirstin, the anti-education crowd still won’t have a majority on the NMUSD, it’ll be 4-3 like it was last year. The HB pro-library movement is looking real impressive though! Can the censors close a margin this big?
We’ll have a better idea at … let’s see… 9:30! See you then!

OK. Congratulations to Our Library Matters (or as Calvary Chapel calls ’em “Our Library PEDOPHILE Matters.” We’re calling it for the people of HB, everyone else already has anyway. And congratulations to Andrea I guess, her and her Flair Play. Overall a decent night, now back to fighting Trump, ICE and MAGA.
THE DAY AFTER.
Porn-obsessed HB Councilman Chad Williams, perhaps the most strident opponent to Measures A and B, has made very good-natured, sportsmanlike concession statements, congratulating “Our Library Matters” on a job well done. Well, you wouldn’t want Chad to be a bad loser, BUT… if he really believed all the things he’s said, that the library gives kids porn and librarians are groomers… you’d kinda think he’d be a little more upset and coming up quickly with a Plan B to save HB’s children! Maybe he didn’t believe it.
Maybe it was all a partisan political prank.
I congratulated some of the pro-library people, and they think their last mailer did a real good job cementing their victory, which I reproduce here:
