We wouldn’t have Jimmy Fallon on the front page if it weren’t for a really good reason.
Prophecy or perspicacity? It’s your call!

Once you’ve paid attention to Donald Trump for long enough, predictions aren’t that difficult.
This is your Weekend Open Thread. It’s been a while and you’ve earned one.
If you’ve forgotten the rules, talk about that or anything else you’d like, within reasonable bounds of discretion and decorum. And of dignity, now that that’s going to be a thing again.
About Greg Diamond
Somewhat verbose attorney, semi-disabled and semi-retired, residing in northwest Brea. Occasionally ran for office against jerks who otherwise would have gonr unopposed. Got 45% of the vote against Bob Huff for State Senate in 2012; Josh Newman then won the seat in 2016. In 2014 became the first attorney to challenge OCDA Tony Rackauckas since 2002; Todd Spitzer then won that seat in 2018. Every time he's run against some rotten incumbent, the *next* person to challenge them wins! He's OK with that.
Corrupt party hacks hate him. He's OK with that too.
He does advise some local campaigns informally and (so far) without compensation. (If that last bit changes, he will declare the interest.)
His daughter is a professional campaign treasurer. He doesn't usually know whom she and her firm represent. Whether they do so never influences his endorsements or coverage. (He does have his own strong opinions.) But when he does check campaign finance forms, he is often happily surprised to learn that good candidates he respects often DO hire her firm. (Maybe bad ones are scared off by his relationship with her, but they needn't be.)
*Here is your thought balloon for the day: How long will it take to re-adopt Obama era
Environmental laws around this country? Let’s hope Joe and Kamala can get that done
in the 2nd week of their Administration. Clean water for Flint, Michigan and around our country! Clean air for Madison, Wisconsin and around our country!
Don’t get all weepy for Obama. Even though I made phone calls for the guys campaign and voted for him, I was very disappointed in him and his administration. Lots of people lost their homes due to fraudulent banking practices, and not one banker went to jail. Oh, and the use of drones…
He set this country up to elect DT.
Let’s set higher goals than going back to Obama.
Justice Democrats !!
Here’s another thought balloon for the day…
Which Presidency was worse ?
George W and the cartoon figure Cheney ?
or
Donald Trump and the evangelical robot Pence ?
Inquiring minds want to know…
Cheney was pretty deadly to be called a cartoon figure.
He always reminded me of the Penguin, one ruthless, very lethal comic book villain.
It’s poetic that Cheney needed a heart transplant.
Christian Bale sure got him down last year.
*Here is your hopeful response: “Every Captain has a First Mate…..but some
are better than others…Say what you will about the dogma of Cheney, but the duplicity of Pence and his weak handshake tells the tale for us.
Using the following analogy, I would say Trump was worse that W/Cheney.
The 43 Administration was like a computer virus that got into your computer and deleted a bunch of your files. That’s bad, but hopefully you could restore them from backups.
The 45 Administration was like a computer virus that allowed someone to take over your operating system. That’s another level of bad.
The 43 Administration was full of bad policy, policy that led to financial ruin and to massive numbers of deaths, mostly abroad. It did mess with the operating system in some cases, involving the existence of a separate “war constitution,” which were more along the lines of messing with the operating system, but that was not its main thrust.
The 45 Administration was all about messing with the operating system and creating new norms that would permit the ruination of the country’s ability to ever resurrect itself as a working and potentially honest democracy. Other that the physical destruction of the domestic and population — and it got a pretty good start on that — that’s about as bad as you can get.
*Dr. D., we have one important question: How long will Michelle Steele be a Congresswoman from Orange County? We should start that Pool right now. Some say 20 years, others say she will be voted out in the next election in two years. Your opinion is a “touchstone” and would be greatly appreciated.
Meanwhile, Happy Veteran’s Day and the Birthday of the US Marine Corps.

If the two-year exiles suffered by Sharon Quirk-Silva (2014-15) and Josh Newman (2019-20) after first barely taking over long-red OC districts are a guide… then Harley and Gil should be back in 2022.
*Since we don’t have an Open Thread for this week-end…..we have to weigh in on November 15th, with this assessment of a tangential political issue which is particularly bugging. College Football…….OMG, between Covid, Empty Stadiums and empty headed Coaches…..this has already been quite a season. Our Ala Mater USC has been rated 20th for two straight weeks….and we can’t stand it. Nothing about Clay Helton or Kendon Slovic are exciting or worthy. The back-up staff is what is keeping them in business, but they will have tough time beating Fresno State in Imperial Valley Bowl…in our humble opinion. Our LSU…and Coach “O” are having a tough go without a Heisman QB….but we have hope for the next couple of years. Jack Sears, our local San Clemente High School Hero……left the University of Spoiled Children and is now with Boise State. We predict a good Bowl Poisiton for Boise State either this year or next. Nick Saban and the Alabama “Tide” will probably win the National Championship again, because…. Meanwhile, the Pro Season is hilarious. We always hated the Chargers until Justin Herbert came along. He is actually a great QB, now is they can only get a great Defense to help the boy out. They play the old Alabama QB Tua – Tagliofolo or something like that who also a great quarterback tonight… Hate it when two good QB’s
have to go against each other. The Lambs are playing our Seahawks, but Pete Carroll is having some issues on Defense….and the Offensive line will have a tough time protecting Russell Wilson…..so we need quick passing and lots of unexpected runs. Jared Goff has become the Phillip Rivers of the League and can win or lose in a heartbeat without notice. Local Sam Darnold, the San Clemente, USC QB that went to the “Yets”…has been replaced by Joe Flacko…..brutal. Sam needs to be traded and to become a backup for Joe Burrow in Cincinnati. Oh, did we forget Ohio State and Notre Dame as also being contenders for the College National Championshio? That is because Alabama is going to win…..sorry Buckeye and Irish fans.
*Yeah, we know we forgot the Clemson Tigers….no chump change there. They have a veteran QB but some significant holes in their defense this year. They are 7-1 right now but those numbers are deceptive. We love the Tigers, but it is doubtful that can pull off the big one this year!
